Yall run into any good audiobooks on networking and ethical hacking? I been finding a few on Audible but I wanna know if y’all breh up on any.

I see where you coming from because thats how it is in a lot of other fields (not sure if you work in IT or not) and I would agree with you fully if I didn't do the opposite

I haven't used any outside connections at all, self taught in everything I know and have reached over 6 figs in 6 yrs (I think I could have hit this quicker with a strict plan earlier on). IT is one of those fields where you will only go as far as your hustle.

You gotta want it and you gotta be smart when finessing your resume and how you speak in these interviews. For example, lets say you are studying for a cert (AWS cert), take the topic you are learning (VPC's) and put that shyt on your resume. You already read about it, can speak on it and probably set it up in a lab...Who can tell you that you didn't learn it at this point?

Now when you in an interview they are going to ask you about VPC's you can think back like "I did this shyt :ohhh: like 10x already this is easy"

Also you gotta look at whats in demand skillset wise. With the COVID-19 going on anybody with vpns/cloud/networking/security exp on their resume is getting they phone blown up right now :wow:

The hardest part will be getting that entry job with little to no exp and the hiring manager will be focused on 3 things at this time

- Do you know how to talk to people?
- ability to learn
- is this guy a dikkhead
?

Maaaan I’m bout to fukkin eat. I’m a beast at interviews that’s why I’ve had a lot of different jobs in my life. They had soft skills lectures as a part of my IT program because so many potential employees arent on the ball socially. I’ve already got a great advantage so I’m good.

I’ve seriously been contemplating just applying now and brushing up on the pertinent subjects before the interview but I really want to get all the certs I’m aiming for so I can walk in bossed the fukk up.

Don't know any audiobooks but I dropped a link to a free 30 hour Ethical Hacking course in the Udemy thread that might be up your alley.

anybody working/trying to live that 2 remote job life now that most of us are home?

i've been sitting back today like :ehh: if I can get a contract position thats fully remote I could bring in like 11-12k a month :gucci:
Unless you can somehow automate one if those jobs there isn't enough hours in the day.

Most companies hiring now are looking for people that are desperate and can be worked like a rented mule.

You're best bet is probably finding work on 1 of those freelance sites.

15 amazing freelance websites to find meaningful work on

This.

We have the same plan

I'm not really entertaining going for another job until I know I I'm skilled and certed up to the point I can at least command 85k to 95k.

I' almost bagged an $76k to $80k job before the whole covid-19 shyt kicked off, I was salty at 1st til I recalibrated my mindset start seeing it as an opportunity to really get my skills up so I can smash these companies over the head when shyts blow over.

My current job, the environment is toxic as fukk. Nothing but lazy ass dudes who do nothing but put off work and ghost you the moment you try to escalate something to them even though its what they specialize in. They get to play hot potato with tickets and shyt doesnt get done until well past the SLAs and my team has to carry the cross. I wasnt plannin on leaving til I got my resume on point but shyt is getting crucial. My department is a revolving door except for the other two guys I work with and theyre trash as well which by proxy makes me effectively the team lead. Keep in mind I have only been doing this shyt for a bout a couple of years, but I'm out pacing and outworking all of these 10 year+ IT bums who are content doing less than the bare minimum and have to consult me about shyt they should have known being in IT for so long, unless these nikkas flat out lied about everything on their resume.

I got like three nuthuggin managers who know nothing about technical shyt but want to micromange every fukkin thing and have like a barrage of meetings that take up half the workday. Last but not least, I been in this role for 10 or so months now and I still dont have all the access to apps and consoles to do my job, I still dont have the rights for SCCM, ESXI, Airwatch, and Azure even though I was hired on to do this shyt. Money is good but im' being shortchanged in the skills I could be acquiring.

It's cool though because I been labbing with AD: DS, FS & GPO, Powershell, and Linux during my downtime and I've become really fluent. I just need the certs because....well that's the game.

I know one thing though, I'll never take another bullshyt ass job where i'm not touching relevant or emerging technologies.

Honestly I might overshoot my goal of 85K by the time I have all my certs. I'ma be too cold with this shyt, My resume is already on point, but where I'm bout to take it with these certs.......

Foooooool, congrats! I’m studying for that hoe now. What you see on the exam? I heard they got them logs on there where you have to identify the type of attack taking place. You got any study material for that? :ohhh:

Yeah we definitely have the same plan. My main thing is to have a good environment. I was gonna start out by working for Howard since next to my current job and given that I’ve been in Black business for the past 5 years I wanna be in an environment familiar enough with me.

But yeah, I’m trying to increase my earning power by upping my skills. I want to finish with the following certs:

A+
Server+
Linux+
Sec+
Net+
CCNA Routing and Switching
CySA
CEH
AWS

After that I might consider the Cisco CyOps cert but that list alone will have me well into the 100k area since I’m in the DMV. I’m sure I’ll start working before I get all those certs but the idea for me is to get enough skills to be able to leverage it into my own Cyber Security consulting firm eventually.

My exam had 70 questions. I think I had 3-4 PBQs. A lot of my exam was a mix of easy questions like copying drives during a forensic analysis BUT I'd have questions with bash commands that I had no clue about. I saw logs, but none about attacks occurring. The PBQs made no sense TBH. I knew that I had to try to damn near get majority of the multiple choice right and some points for attempting the PBQs. I honestly thought I'd either fail by a few points or pass by a few few points. You have 2.5hrs so you have plenty of time to not speed through it like the Sec+ since that exam only gives you 90mins. I finished the multiple choice with about 1hr left and finished the exam with about 10mins left.

True, so it’s kinda what I was thinking too that I’ll need to ace the multiple choice questions. Good thing is it’s so similar to Sec+ to me that I can use a little of Messer’s practice exams and I got videos n shyt too. I assume you had to do the exam from home. How was the setup? Does it lag any? I really want to go to a test center but I can’t wait on this shyt.

Its more concentrated than the sec+. The sec+ was bad for me cause I had to memorize too many things. It was too wide.

the cysa is more concentrated. If you take time to analyze the questions, logs nshyt, you’ll have a better chance in cutting down to 2-3 right answers.

When I was checking in for the exam I got the spinning beachball of death on my mac but just sat there for like 3 mins cause I didnt wanna get DQ’d. The software you gotta dl from pearson vue locks you computer. But I just said fukk and just hit the power button on my laptop. I got a call from some indian nikka with a bad accent and bad reception who was the proctor and he restarted my exam :gucci:

Smfh, I’m not looking forward to that at all. I would way rather go to the test center cuz I’m hip enough to know you can’t always trust remote shyt. Especially if it’s a bunch of people using it at once.

But you right, I think that’s why CySA was easier for me because I could focus on less stuff. Whenever the info is broad I tend to have a harder time. But CySA and CCNA alone will have me eating real good so I’m gonna test for a few certs and then maybe wait until the test centers are open.
