I’m in my A+ class right now. When I’m done with the program i signed up for I will have my A+, Network+, Security+, CASP, CCENT, CCNA, MS Windows 10, MCS Server 2012, and a ethical hacker cert :whew:

I’m in the NYC market. Do y’all think I can hit 6 figs or close to it by this time next year?
Just giving my perspective and not trying to be negative but with those certs and no experience, you would be lucky to get a junior position and most companies are not paying 6 figs for a junior. I would recommend that you try to find a position while you are going through the program so that when you complete it, you will have the certs and a little experience to go along with it.

Definitely plan on getting a help desk position after I get my N+. I just wanted to know if it was possible making 6 figs right out the gate.

No. It would take a few years to get to that 100k. Starting out you might make 45k lol.

Nice.

Finally got a passing score on one of those bonso practice exams for SA on the first try.

Got an 83. Feeling a bit more confident.

My weak areas seem to be advanced IAM (AD services,STS), SWF, Monitoring, TLS/SSL certificates

I’ve been hearing good things about the Bonso practice exams. I’m going right into aws once I finish this ccna

I think its a bit challenging. Read that its a bit harder than the actual. I did the acloudguru(acg) SA course, and did the first practice tests and got a 58:mjlol::mjcry:

Was seeing a bunch of services that acg didnt cover. ACG is surface level. They're always saying "this is all you need to know for the exam". Im like nah nikka, I need to know a lot more:aicmon:

Wait, so how did you enter the field and what training/education did you have prior to landing your first gig?

No I’m in Manufacturing right now. It was my to pay for bills and certs job initially til they told me they would pay for my bachelors in full. I initially chose to major in Information Technology. After a month of research I changed my major to Computer Science. Began learning some coding on my own and fell in love with it. Software Engineer is my future job and it’s the top 5 most in demand jobs in the US. :salute:

Got my ECBA certification earlier today brehs. Glad to get that out the way. Can't really do to much with it though since they don't really hire business analysts with just an associate degree. I'll be getting my bachelor's next january though

AT&T Layoffs, Outsourcing Show H-1B Denials Aren't Curbing Visa Use

AT&T is engaged in sweeping layoffs, according to a new report from Axios, which also suggested that the telecom giant is engaged in significant outsourcing.

“AT&T is poised to send thousands into the new year hunting for new jobs after assigning them to train their own foreign replacements,” Axios wrote, based on documents and firsthand conversations with laid-off workers. “They aren’t being offered severance or early retirement, and may not easily find a comparable job elsewhere with similar pay.”

AT&T has business-services contracts with IBM, Tech Mahindra, and other firms, all of which provide contractors who can take the place of full-time workers. “We are continuously working to be more efficient in our operations,” an AT&T spokesperson told Axios, although the company refused to confirm or deny exactly how many positions it had outsourced to contracting firms.

Trading full-time employees for contractors is a practice under severe scrutiny at the moment, especially within the context of the H-1B visa program, which critics suggest is being used by companies across the country to import cheaper labor. Professional consulting and business-services firms that petition for numerous H-1B visas every year are finding an increasing number of their applications either forced into review or denied.

Indeed, a recent analysis by the National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP) of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) data noted that denial rates for H-1B petitions had skyrocketed to 24 percent through the third quarter of fiscal year 2019.

“At least 12 companies that provide professional or IT services to other U.S. companies, including Accenture, Capgemini and others, had denial rates over 30 percent through the first three quarters of FY 2019,” the report (PDF) added. “Most of these companies had denial rates between 2 percent and 7 percent as recently as FY 2015.”

I know some folk who work for them. This has been in play for just about the past 2 years. Layoffs due to outsourcing and high turnover of young employees.

I don't know why people continue to work for companies that outsource heavily like At&t, IBM etc? I avoid these companies like the plague.

Well you would think that they wouldn't outsource work on proprietary information, keep that knowledge in house since contractors can come and go, but leadership in big companies never tends to think about that sort of thing. Some expenses are worth having :yeshrug:
