I worked in Telecom Engineering and just fell in love with subject and kept self studying. Looked at the top paying certs cloud n security and knocked out 4 of them. Most money I made in my life.

Love my job because I learn something new every day but I want to get into those consulting companies. If not, a major cloud provider
I am all about which direction will open more opportunities. I have little trust in companies.

So you made the transition I'm eyeing right now. I have my CCNP and I'm studying for the Jncia-Devops right now because it's free through Juniper Genius.

I'm at a crossroads because my job is pushing me towards CCIE and I've spent about 6 months preparing for the written and if I get the written I can slide into a slot on the network architecture team but Cloud/devops is way more exciting to me.

Not to mention I'm on 2 automation projects using python and ansible at work.

What are the certs you grabbed to make the switch to cloud?

I got hired for cloud security but business needs changed so they have me learning intrusion prevention systems. But I have both gcp , aws and i have my aws security.
I am eventually going to slide back into cloud sec but I'm not rushing since I am working on a few more things to add to my resume.

Going to try this shyt for the third time. I need a career change :francis:

I wanted to do software engineering before and got discouraged after a while. I still would like to do software engineering but, IT seems like the easier path. I'm 31. I don't have time to waste.

Should I even bother with the A+ or go straight to Network+/Security+? How long does it typically take to study for the exams? Im trying to cross over within the next 6 months.

What caused you to get discouraged?

I could only maybe program 2 hours a day after work with all the other things I was trying to do at the time. I never got past JavaScript and that was a year of learning. But in hindsight if I kept at it...because the time is going to pass anyway...I’d be a G at it by now. Right now I make just enough to be comfortable but it’s so unfulfilling it’s fukking with me mentally and there’s no career growth there. So back to square one. Im still stuck between if I wanna just go the cert route or try programming again since I have a good grasp on front end. I just need to learn a server side language.

What do you enjoy? I can't speak for the programming side but the on the systems side(I assume thats what you meant by certs) it can be rough and if you don't enjoy it can really burn you out. That said it can be a very enjoyable career especially if you like learning and facing new challenges. You could probably earn more at a faster rate going the programming route but you can make good money going the systems route as well.

My brother in law finished his bachelors with kids. My sister would sometimes leave the house with the kids when he needed to get stuff done.

I study during my commute to/from work & for an hour or so after we put em to bed for the night. This weekend I'm going to get up before all em and go to the library for a couple hours.

For the brehs that learned AWS and are in cloud

At what point did you put it on your resume?

I finished the course, watched a ton of videos in the past two months

Now I'm focusing on doing labs over and over again, researching documentation and doing the questions on udemy.
