that's ridiculous.......i didnt think it was THAT bad in detroit...you need to do yourself a favor and make a move some other state if you can.
There is better than that out here in the D, you need to get with some recruiters man
For those that have done it. How did you get out of the desktop support role? I've been stuck there for the last few years, no certs to speak of, just experience.

I been looking for a part time gig and its available so why not
How geeky do I need to be? I dont have professional experience in IT, but like a majority of forum users I know my way around a computer. Does it focus more so on the hardware side? If so

My undergrad is IT related, but my Masters (from a good university) is Information Systems & Public Administration with 1 year experience. I left my 1st (IT) job to finish my masters in south america so when I came back I had been looking since January. I got my masters in May & 2 days later I accepted a government (state) job in the desktop support area (Desktop Support Technician). I'm only making 37,500 a year. I'm just happy I have a job now but I know I could be doing something better (they even told me going in I could) with more $ but so many doors were closing... I'm assuming it's because I wasn't working at the time so I had to accept that desktop support job. Now that I have one, do you think other companies would be more acceptable? Or would you stay in the state job & work your way up? There will be opportunity to do so. I've done a lot of things (such as studying abroad) so my resume is good, even the National Security Agency out in DC was impressed & was in the process of interviewing me but they were moving too slow.
The job I was at for a year was a smaller company, so I was able to have my hands on everything... (networking, created the website, support, training, created webinars, billing application etc), I feel like I'm almost backpedaling a bit even though this 1 is for the state. I do know The Lord wants me here right now & to do the best job I can in this current role, yet I'm already anxious to bounce though (which I am seeking Him about). Humble yet hungry. What would you do? Start looking at certificates & figuring out exactly what you want to get into? Jump ship immediately to another company?
Whole lotta openings in Miami and San Diego. Anybody work out there?
