You only need math if you decide to get a Computer science degree.

Exactly like programming, Database etc...

If anybody looking to get a career in computers the best route to go is Healthcare. More secure and is a growing field. This hospital I am at deal with hundreds of vendors and areas. System analyst, programmer, healthcare applications, web designer, database, server/network/telecom and desktop. The worst is help desk shyt is terrible and it pays the least. So try to get in a hospital if yall can.

Thanks. If I don't get a degree in whatever would that hurt my chances in whatever job I want to get? I'm basically asking if a breh with no degree can eat

I'm watching professormesser video's and I don't even know where to start :merchant:

Dude to be honest and you should know this... It's about all who you know in the workfield. There are uneducated mofos that have 60 a year jobs with high school no cert or degree because they know somebody. Start networking and it will take you a long way seriously.

It's not so much that people WANT to do it, but you have to in order to get your foot on the door. Nobody is gonna hire a Network Admin or Systems Administrator with no experience, degree or not. Most people have to start in Desktop Support or on the Helpdesk. It's the only type of IT job you can get with no experience, unless you have a hookup or something. It is what it is.

The only exceptions really are if you want to work on the CS side of things (ie. programming, database work, etc.).

Maybe an decade ago you could start off doing desktop support and move your way up. But I see way more dudes getting trapped doing desktop support forever. Once companies find an half way decent support person they'll never let you leave. You'll basically have to job hop your first couple of years in order to move up. Unless you get lucky and find someplace willing to promote internally and cross trains which is rare these days.

I agree...this is where I've been stuck for the past few years. :sadcam:

But what else can you do? For somebody starting in IT, the only jobs really available are helpdesk/desktop support jobs. I don't see how there's any way to get into higher level positions, especially in this economy unless you know somebody.

Personally I want to be a Network Admin, but I can't get a job as a Network Admin without already having experience as a Network Admin, and I can't get experience as a Network Admin without getting hired as one. :smh:

Job training? Forget about it, nobody wants to train people. I can get certs and whatnot but I still won't get hired for that type of job w/o experience.

It said to read it like a novel one time then go through once more taking notes and shyt. But theres so much shyt i feel like im getting lost. Its a great book but im just tryin to get through this and be certified already. Is there some shyt i can just cram in 1-2 weeks and take my test?

Test Dumps = cheating. It has some of the "REAL" Questions from the exams.

I dont recommend using test dumps, you're really cheating yourself. Plus nobody should need a test dump for the A+

Welcome to IT.. :( I buy a related programming/networking/OS book almost every other week.

Sorry it's just no way to get around it. Personally I always recommend to people to buy a book close to the cert they are looking for( because you'll learn alot more than whats needed ) and then buy a "Cert" book on the subject.

For example if you can get through this book

Amazon.com: Upgrading and Repairing PCs (20th Edition) (9780789747105): Scott M. Mueller: Books

The A+ will be a joke.

Also while i'm at it, the best book i've read on TCP/IP

Amazon.com: The TCP/IP Guide: A Comprehensive, Illustrated Internet Protocols Reference (9781593270476): Charles M. Kozierok: Books

The trick is, you have to make this stuff apart of your daily life, not just always studying to get a cert.

Hit up irc.freenode.net and you'll learn more from people their then just about any website.

I personally wouldn't waste much time learning PC repair. Most Fortune 500 companies these days don't repair computers that break down but just replace them. Generally machines are replaced the minute the warranty runs out because their probably leasing them. If I had to start all over again I would jump into studying Networking first then Virtualization but skip PC repair because its completely worthless.

Tis is true...but the book contains stuff that goes beyond regular PC repairs. Plus for me, 99% of the stuff I read is just for the knowledge and doesn't really apply to my job. I think once alot of the beginners can get pass trying to gain every *hot* certification and actually want to acquire the knowledge, they'll have an easier time when it comes to getting whatever cert they want.

Its like studying for a Math class just so you can hurry up and pass the class, but don't really care for math. but thats just me...lol
