I cant lie, i find myself memorizing the material alot better after going over the practice questions as opposed to just reading through these long chapters. would the practice questions from the back of the mike myers and exam cram book be enough?

They should be enough

Ultimately you will keep your job based on your hands on experience. Put more emphasis on practicals than books

what was your method to studying for the a+ exam? im reading the a+ exam cram book by david prowse and watching professor messer videos. I have the Mike Myers a+ book but that shyt is too damn long (1347 pages):why:

When I was studying for the A+, I made a bunch of note cards. I would take the practice tests and which ever ones I got wrong, I would write the answer down on a note card, among other things.

Once you start scoring around 90 - 100% of the practice tests, you should have no problem with the real test.

Also, probably the best way to study for the A+ is to hit up new egg and build a computer( If you have the $$$$ for it ).

Got an interview next week for this job:

Management Information Systems Specialist

An Associates degree in computer science or related field, or certificate in the study of computer applications and hardware/software. Experience and demonstrated abilities in LAN Administration and personal computer troubleshooting. Some travel required. Effective communication skills.

Bilingual Ability in English/Spanish preferred. Competitive wage. No citations for child abuse or neglect. T.B. test, MI State Police ICHAT and MI Dept. of Human Services Child Abuse/Neglect screenings required.

Job Location: XXXXXXX, Michigan. $19.49 Hourly

I'm surprised I got the interview and honestly don't think I'm qualified, my experience is basically doing helpdesk shyt, I've never been a Network Admin (and no, I didn't lie about anything on my resume). Seems like they're looking for somebody experienced to run the network from what I can tell. Though I do (obviously) have a degree. And no, I'm not bilingual.

Don't think I have too much chance of landing it but I'll roll through and see how it goes. :yeshrug:

Have an interview Friday for a Desktop Support Analyst. Minium rate is 25.92 Midpoint 33.92. Hopefully I get this job because this hospital overpays for their IT staff. I believe I have it though because I was a intern there for 6 months until I had moved to Network/Telecommunications.

Desktop support paying 25+/hr? :wtf:

I need to move to where you live. I don't even think my boss makes that.

Hell Yeah thats just this hospital. The surrounding hospitals in the city doesn't pay near that. They get funding from government which help I assume (Don't Know) but they also building a new one outside the area also. I will be set if I get in here.

I have a Bachelors in Network, Security & Administration. 6 months before my completion of my degree I did not have any experiences so I had taken whatever was available, which was desktop. I have a associate also but it won't do nothing if you don't have any certs. I have no certs but I am looking for a job that will pay for them. That is the way to go because half these certs man you need hands on experience which is so important. I was learning Cisco in class and thought it was easy if you study.. Wrong. The job experience is more important. Certain situations can arise with circumstances its crazy.

The hospital that I am at is placing Cisco Voip devices in the new hospital and the current IT building. I have been learning that as of late along with the IPAD devices and how to secure it with this Juiper Pulse software. Cool shyt. Just stuffing the resume.

Brehs, I got my degree in Business/Marketing. Currently working in sales. I fukken HATE it! I make decent money but I want out of this corporate filth. I've always had a fondness for technology. I'm going the self taught route.

Is A+ the safest way to start my path?

It depends on what type of career path your after. With your Business Degree I would steer clear of desktop or technical support type roles because it's as dead end as they come. In fact anyone wanting to do desktop or technical support should have their head examined.

It's not so much that people WANT to do it, but you have to in order to get your foot on the door. Nobody is gonna hire a Network Admin or Systems Administrator with no experience, degree or not. Most people have to start in Desktop Support or on the Helpdesk. It's the only type of IT job you can get with no experience, unless you have a hookup or something. It is what it is.

The only exceptions really are if you want to work on the CS side of things (ie. programming, database work, etc.).

That's what I figured. Unless I can intern somewhere during the nights, I have to gain some kind of experience. I just got Meyers' pdf and I'm gonna read it on the tablet.
