I am going to install a VM with a Linux distro on my machine to get more hands-on experience. I already have a few Linux books (Linux Basics for Hackers and The Linux command LIne) to study with. This may be a stupid question, but for Unix can that environment be found in a Linux distro or does it need to be installed separately?
The command line? All linux distros have a command line, most use Bash, but you can easily install whatever you're looking for. Linux and the command line are things you have to get hands on with in order to really get comfortable. So the best way is probably just to download Ubuntu, get it installed in a Virtual box VM, and then play around.

Im tired of going to IT jobs and seeing either full Asians, full white, or full Indians.

I just want a diverse mixture of people or at least 3-4 more black people to work with me. I can't stand being the only black person in my group, where you guys at? You would think living in NYC, that one could escape this but nah:mjcry:
im in nyc and i think i've been pretty lucky as far as working with black people in IT...unfortunately i know its not the norm

my last job my manager and 3 coworkers on my actual team were brehs :blessed: shyt was lit hitting up the close by midtown bars/lounges on fridays

my current job is a lot bigger and there are a lot more black people working IT here (mostly support roles though)

finding the right company is tough...but they do exist

Crisc is now in the bag :wow:. I definitely need to find the right fit once I wrap up this cloud training. Goal is to use it as leverage not to technically be too hands on. I want to avoid any company that has to deal with with network outages or working on call. Being on call will kill your soul.

This looks to be the way to go instead of frontline roles cleaning up behind idiots all day. Especially if these certs are good for life and don't require constant re-certification every 2 or 3 years. These 100% technical positions are a race to the bottom. Once you reach a certain salary level you can't go any hire.

i was tempted to buy an exam dump, but i stopped myself. My successes so far has been from buckling down and studying and passing with flying colors. This is the first time I've failed any cybersecurity exam. I'm sad, but I cannot bring myself to stoop this low.

Got another call from a recruiter from a cloud consultancy company.
Already accepted an offer so I just passively entertained him since I had shyt else to do.
I canceled the interview 2 days in advanced and dude still called me.
I really was trying to undersell myself to make dude uninterested, but he persisted on some ..

because I was kinda meh with my answers, dude thought I was inexperienced and tried to push me for some Helpdesk/Desktop position that's on an as-needed basis. Even just playing along and going through the motions, I was offended and was about to bush the call altogether. Then he said he could do $40 an hour. :ehh::patrice::jbhmm:

So I gave him my terms and let him know I can only do weekends , part-time because I'm not compromising my primary job. He agreed. Still nothing solid. He said he might be able to get me a 2nd round team interview. I dont know if he meant an actual team or Microsoft Teams, but i'm not really in the mood for interviewing with 4-6 MF for an as-needed position. Especially after the easy ass hiring process I just went through with the company I accepted the offer from.

I still might bush'em, but the skills I can gain passively is the only reason I'm even considering it.

They deal with alot of Devops/Automation, Cloud/datacenter, cyber security, modern desktop, modern application, Data/AI stuff.

There's a good chance dude was just bullshytting to save face and I'll never hear from him again, but if he does follow-up Idunno what call to make.

guess I'll play it by ear. But 1 thing for sure is I'm not juggling 2 jobs throughout the weekday, Im not pressed for money. I just want to level up my skill 1000% so I can go for them lucrative $150k-$170k+ cloud/Devops/virtualization/Big Data roles by Spring 2023. I've been regularly getting prospects offering 80k-105k annually for the past 10 months, so I think where I want to take it is doable. Just need a few more industry relevant skills and I'll be there.
