Let me get some laptop advice real quick. Is this a good deal?

I want something a bit lighter, smaller, with a better keyboard this is what I got now and had for years.

Lenovo Y700 15.6" Core i7-6700HQ 2.6GHz, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD Plus 256GB SSD,GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5, Ultra HD 4K IPS Gaming Notebook for sale online | eBay

but I got 16 gigs of ram, 512 ssd and all that.

I'm confused I don't wanna sell this and end up with some plastic trash that's not reliable. My max is 600 and I'm hoping to get 450 for this.

As someone with an AWS cert, this is 100 percent correct

I have the cert but until I have more years on my resume it’s not going to mean much to these companies

that’s why I’m getting the certain now and with more experience and practice I’m not thinking about a cloud job for about another 2 years
Cloud Practitioner?

Its good, will allow you to run multiple VM's and shyt
But thats gonna go for way more than 450 :francis:
3 days till the end i think it will reach close to the asking price
Is this gonna be to use at home? Are you a student or what?

No student, I study in my free time. I'm on it now to be exact. I have the y700, the flex is what I was asking about.

I may chill and just save up for a better laptop like the X1 maxed out. My laptop works just a little big.

I would get whichever one has the most hits on job boards. But the problem is none of them will really help you on the job. Most security jobs involve babysitting security technology like firewalls, proxies, antivirus etc.

Sure it's good to have all this IT Security knowledge. But the people running these companies could care less. They ignore cybersecurity best practices anyway. All they want is someone to manage the overpriced security equipment they own. And take the fall if a breach happens.

You're almost better off finding out what security technology a company runs. Downloading trial versions of it and learning it inside and out. Because that's all you'll be doing on the job anyway. Since most IT security departments are severely understaffed. If you master the leading Security vendors technology you'll never be without a job.

I get calls all the time from recruiters about some obscure technology I have on my resume. That a company is willing to pay 6 figures for someone babysit it for a few months.

They could care less about hiring someone that can determine if they've been hacked or not. And in most cases they don't want to know if they've been hacked.

All upper management knows is they paid a ton of money for some buggy security product. And they need to justify that purchase by keeping it up and running. The key is to find a vendor with a halfway decent security product to hitch your wagon too. Because if you pick one of these dying companies like McAfee or Symantec you'll be in the same boat as them.
Where do you go to apply to these IT security jobs?

I rarely apply for these jobs. I usually just set my LinkedIn profile to available for work. And recruiters will start contacting you about cybersecurity roles.

The problem is depending on the area you live in these jobs won't really give you any decent skills or experience. That you can use to find a better paying job.

Probably the best way to find these jobs is through referrals. Companies will hire someone that's referred by another employee almost over anyone else. So you need a tight network which means hundreds of LinkedIn connections at a minimum. And you constantly staying in touch with people in high level positions.

Would you recommend the Linux+ cert or just jump into the RHCSA? How long that take you to study for?

If you have real world experience, just go for the RHCSA. If you trying to learn Linux mainly through studying, take the Linux+ first.

How do I professionally tell an end-user to stop @'ing me for every issue with his computer? I just got off furlough and was reading through my old emails and I swear I had at 20+ emails from this dude. Furlough was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. It made me realize how stress out and miserable I was/am at my job. I suffering from hypertension headaches and terrible anxiety which all stopped all I was on leave. I'm refocused and motivated to break out helpdesk. This is my third week back and I can feel the stress coming back and I'm not gonna be dealing with this ish again.

He sends in emails to our helpdesk but always CC's me on the tickets like I'm his damn slave which makes me have to take the ticket. This dude is a c*nt -very difficult and demanding. Won't answer the phone when I call to schedule a time to look at his machine or respond to emails because he's too "busy". When he's finally available it's always after my shift is over then he gets angry and sends in crazy emails to my boss about how I wouldn't help him and he was unable to work because no one in IT would help him with his pc. And it's not just him it's so many other people who act like I'm their personal IT person.

There are times when I'm working remotely on two different people's computers and on a phone with a third user it's insane. I feel like I'm drowning and the other help desk techs suck and don't do pull their weight as much.

Back to the subject at hand. Would this be alright to send to him and others like him: "In the future please submit a ticket to the Help Desk, and your request will be responded to in the order in which it was received by an available technician."?

Side note: I pass the AWS CCP back in June. I decided to skip the Network + and am going for the CCNA. Once I finish this then I'll be working towards the AWS SA.
