I didn't like awkward black girl. I thought it was corny. But to say she's an enemy of black men is a stretch. she need better characters and character development. Hopefully she had a board full of black writers.

but comes home to this:

and of course she don't work and those aren't his kids, but he's "in love" and don't have a lot of options:huh:

:mindblown:

nevermind the backlash the show would receive, but nobody would find it realistic

i already said this but - if this show is even 80% accurate, then black women need to start having dialogue about the types of men they are dating
:whew:

happy endings

LOL Jessica Jones.

First of all, she isn't the most attractive white woman. THe producers knew she would eventually be with a black man, so they found the most unactractive actress they could find. Someone that most white males would not be attracted too. Second her character was unattractive as well. She was out of control, abrasive, cursed like a sailor and was very unfeminine. Compare that too other white female led shows like Le Femme Nikita. Nothing was sexy about JJ. And that's how the producers wanted it. Third she KILLED Luke's wife and eventually she ended up with him. Luke was portrayed as a emasculatated bedbuck (god i hate that word) with other racial references as well. If this was a wm who killed the black husband and ended up with the black woman EVEN AFTER SHE FOUND OUT, i would've irate.

Now as for the rest: did any of those co-stars married and procreated with the black males they were with? Did they regularly dated black males who disrespected the white males with his condescending tone at the dinner table (i remember that episode of girlfriends where that happened)? Or were they just one time, Becky is just experimenting type of relationships??

I've only seen one episode of Insecure. Wasn't really feeling it. From what I rmbr, only the boyfriend character is a loser.

On Atlanta, every Black male lead is a loser - a drug dealing rapper, a deadbeat semi homeless young dad, and a professional chiller.

I'm guessing there will be an upswing for all these Black male characters, on both shows.

Yes be we do live in it bro, do we not deserve to be counted as well? Or are we some how unimportant? Or better yet invisible. I belong to a site full of well employed successful black men who are building in the black community. I can link you if you want. We have some on this site too. Do they not exist in the world? Are they not a shade of black that should be counted, brother?
Give me that link my guy :salute:

I love Atlanta it's alternative comedy which is great but question, how is the perceived negative stereotypes that are in Issa rates show (haven't watched gonna watch tho) any different than the ones in Atlanta? Main character urn is homeless (can't take care of his kid or responsibilities. His girlfriend and parents take care of him), cousin sells drugs raps and shot someone the first episode, the funny dude is always stoned. These aren't exactly good depictions of black men aside from their dialogue which I do love.
Levels. atlanta main characters are way more complex if you critically analyze then

But what you just described isn't remotely close to the premise of the show. First off, Issa isn't sucessful at all, in like any sector of her life. They make that very clear. Shes someone who worked in non profits all her life before moving on to a teacher's assistant gig that doesn't pay well either where the students constantly shyt on her. Shes incredibly socially retarded and only had one friend willing to hang out with her on her own birthday who probably only hangs out with her because they're both equally adrift in life.

Second, while her mans is unemployed the show doesn't ever insinuate that his bummyness is something reflective of black men as a whole, just him for being lazy. We don't even know anything about him characterwise other than his employment status to even be able to point at anything being stereotypical or tropic. Every other black man shown or even referenced on the show so far has their shyt together. The reason why shes still with old boy isn't because of some black female Stockholm syndrome, it's because no one is checkin for her, cause she has an offputting personality. Plus she very much comes clean and says her problem is her own fault for deciding to settle and get complacent in the first place, not his.

I don't really understand people who'd shyt on this but sing the praises of Atlanta (which is great don't get me wrong). It has the same dynamic but from the dudes perspective. A burnout shacking it up with a struggling teacher who's slowly trying to branch off and explore her options as her patience runs out

i haven't watched yet, but i personally know issa, she is and has always been BLACK, has a lovely black boyfriend and is not on that c00n life. yall try too hard throw every black person in the bushes. if you don't like the show, that's cool, but don't pretend like she's go some devious MO against black men

But what you just described isn't remotely close to the premise of the show.

1) she has a job and is gainfully employed, holding down her own place and being a self sufficient adult. her man hasn't had a job in 4 years.

2) her friend is exactly as i described above only in reverse - it doesn't matter if it's issa rae's character or not, It's being shown.

Interesting how some of ya'll are bashing this while praising Atlanta. I can almost guarantee if Atlanta was told from the perspective of Earn's girlfriend and Gambino was a supporting character ya'll would be calling that a c00n, black-male bashing show too. And on the flip side if Insecure was told from the perspective of Issa's boyfriend and showed his struggles ya'll would be praising that show.

I think the real issue is some of ya'll just don't want to see a show that has a black female POV, which is whatever, but don't pretend like it's anything more than that
