They’ve been focusing on life without Lawrence. He’s not the main character. Shut up & keep watching
and lo and behold it's been the worst season to date with the last episode being considered the best of the season

I’m obviously in the minority cause I love the new direction.
  • Season 1: Issa and Lawrence.
  • Season 2: Issa the single lady & the heaux phase.
  • Season 3: Issa rebuilds from the failed heaux phase.
I get it, at all that replied to me. It’s great that a non main character can effect the show so deeply as far as buzz and storyline. I’m just here for the overall show. Was I excited to see Lawrence back? Hell yeah!!! That’s more fukkery for the Lyft bae and makes me wonder what Lawrence been on since he moved out. I’m here for the whole thing.

I'm unsure how much planning went into the character development and overall plot development from the season 1 pilot till now, however, it seems like Lawrence's popularity wasn't expected.

'Insecure' seems to be an extension of 'Awkward Black Girl' in a lot of ways and I'd assume that the focus was meant to be Issa, with Molly in tandem.

But Lawrence's arc really resonated with the audience, men in particular and thus, perhaps the creator's vision for the show adjusted?

I really don't know why Lawrence is so popular. Dude was a bum that was forced to get his shyt together when issa switched it up on him.

Can you name a more relatable black male character on TV in the last 20 years? Lawrence is a normal dude who was smart, but down on his luck when the show started. He’s easier to relate to than the cool slackers of past tv shows (Eddie/ Theo) and he’s not a super square like a Carlton or Urkel, and he’s not a power fantasy like Stringer/Avon/Ghost.

Really enjoyed this episode. Lawrence making his return like Stone Cold at Backlash 2000 :krs: :krs:

Kelly was easily MVP for this EP. Killed it end to end :laff: :laff:

Not sure what it is specifically but the show is shot extremely well, visually. The colours, vibrancy overall is just :whew: - beyond just it being HD.

He's arguably one of the most relatable African-American men to be portrayed on television in recent times.

A lot of men in general, be it consciously or subconsciously get their shyt right because of a woman.

I can see that but no matter what type of dream I'm pursuing I can't have my g

Agreed, but I think it became clear after the season 1 finale aired just how popular Lawrence is how and important he is to the show.

Me nocurrr @Guvnor this season has been on point of life beyond your ex. What happens when life happens and you break up: you move on and keep living. You don’t go Toni Braxton and never breathe again or go full Mario and forget how to breathe.

Issa had to literally pack herself up and stay on her friend-bae couch... drive a Lyft and work a miserable ass job while trying to get herself back on her feet. This season is focusing on the flaws of careers choices in the mid to late 20s and how it effects us beyond it.

You're right and it has been about Issa trying to move on past Lawrence, I agree with that. However it has been dull until the last two episodes with Issa making dumb decisions and the show kind of dragging along. With the exception of Molly trying to fit in with the black law firm, Kelly's humor here and there and I will also add in that the soundtrack also helps the show along with it's cinematography the main plot been kind of lacking.

The show was clearly building up for this and even you said yourself you're excited to hear what Lawrence was up to and you're excited to see his character back. I mean where would they even go plot wise if Lawrence didn't come back? The show seemed to have no real point without Lawrence's character there and grew a little bland. Issa trying to get her life together and move on from the break up provided a plot with no climax in site or excitement.

With that said, maybe it will be Lawrence vs the Lyft customer dude competing for Issa and shyt with Issa and Lawrence reconciling next season. I'm not sure if Lawrence popping up in this episode means he will be back for good or that he will just pop in and out this season.

Cmon we all saw how trash her relationship was with Lawrence. Neither of them are good for each other.

That was mostly her fault though, sure Lawrence sleeping on the couch for two years or whatever didn't help matters. However she cheated and didn't provide encouragement for him when he had a dream and wanted to create an app. I think it can work but they have growing to do to say the least. When there relationship was good it was good but Issa thought the grass was greener on the other side so she cheated with Daniel, was selfish and didn't want to work through her problems.

Truth be told Issa is a bum period who is selfish but for the sake of the show she should work things out with Lawrence if there is a chance for that to happen and grow out of her bummyness.
