No. Kashmir did not have hostilities on the same level of Punjab.

If Hindus and Sikhs were completely forced out of one part of Kashmir (and that part ended up in Pakisan), and Muslims were completely forced out of the other part of Kashmir (and that part ended up in India), then we would have the situation that exists in Punjab. And there would not be any fighting over Kashmir.

It's sad that in some cases it takes complete ethnoreligious cleansing for people to move on, but that is what happened in Punjab. The resettlement by both sides of the displaced refugees played an indispensable part in allowing both parties to move on.
