Superstar
I think Whitney has the best range of all time.
Off the top of my head I'd put Bey, Lalah Hathaway
Jazmine Sullivan, before her...just to name a few
Based off skill
They have more range, agility, etc...better technique
At least from what I've heard
Can't deny she has the adult contemporary pop lane on lock though
Young Beyoncé was FIRE
Her range and tone was legit amazing. Once she got older and her voice deepened and someone told her she can rap….that was it.
But from Dangerously in Love until that single ladies shyt, she was a beast.
Beyonce would be slaughtered by Gwen dikkey from Rose Royce and there are probably few posters who have even heard of Rose Royce let alone Gwen dikkey. However, they heard Mary J. Blige butchering Gwen dikkey's songs.lol at Beyonce even in these discussions.
some of yall need to stop![]()
Nah. She aight, but Aretha is a killa.Anita Baker is the GOAT singer
Beyonce before Adele?![]()

Yes
And several others
Wha makes Adele a better vocalist?
Disagree
Funny tho she did a cover of Wishing On A Star
Now listen to Gwen's original version. Of course everybody has their own opinions about this type of thing, but in all honesty I don't know if Beyonce and Mariah Carey even fit within the top 20 female R&B singers over the last 50 years. To me they are not in the same vocal class as people like Stephanie Mills or Chaka Khan or even singers like Tammy Terrell, Phyllis Hyman, Patrice Rushen, much less all timers like Aretha, Etta, Nina S or Gladys. I even question if they are as good as Ann Peebles, Roberta Flack, Minnie Ripperton, Natalie Cole and Denise Williams. Minnie Ripperton had crazy range and was very underrated.
You forgot auto tuning.I hear you
You may prefer Ettas, Gladys style of singing, Bey and Mariah's music is more pop leaning
But just based off objective measures Bey, and of course Mariah, are on par with the greats
i.e. power, range, moving from one register to another, how good the singer is connecting the melody lines, being able to sing long and complex melismas/vocal runs, arranging their breath, etc
