:comeon:

She is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with sales of over 200 million records worldwide.[1] Houston is also one of the most awarded artists in history.

She has an soundtrack that sold 45 million across the globe, I'm not gonna expound anymore but she definitely has the resume bruh

If you want to use that in your argument, then you better add Mariah Carey and Celine Dion to that list as well. Hell, you can add Rihanna to that list as she’s outsold all 3 of them.

The answer to the question btw is Aretha Franklin.

Late 80s Whitney was unconquerable, though
Her tone was thick, rich and creamy
Booming resonance and power
Massive agility and presence
And the emotion and interpretive wit in every vocal line was peerless.
Definitely had The Voice.

I'm not dismissing them at all. But to say she doesn't have the resume is just false. I guess it's a you had to be there thing but in and out of her prime she was very popular. And the only one of them that can match her vocally is Mariah, though I personally think Whitney has the best voice. If we couple in success and vocal talent it's her or Mariah, no one else.

I fukks with Mariah :manny:

mariah overrated

She did a lot of dubbing and lip sync hung in the 90s.. fooling mfs when in actuality her vocals wasn’t hitting the way y’all thought they were

she was either always straining or severely out of tune 80% of the time.

Yes, with Aretha and Stephanie Mills being the only others on the same tier. Mariah and and Gladys are just a rung beneath them.

Y’all gotta listen to a lot more music it shows in this thread

First of all yes Whitney is the greatest female vocalist ever

Whitney
Karen Clark Sheard(Clark Sisters)
Aretha Franklin
Stephanie Mills

those are the greatest in that order, everyone else after in the top 30 can be interchanged

Mariah has one of the best catalogs of a female artist, she is a legendary songwriter one of the greatest
, but she isn’t top 10 all time vocalist and she would say it herself. I say this while listening to her music more than most the others

Mariah would be somewhere from 20-30. She shows love to the legends often and I know she def don’t rank herself as high as some of you are making her.
It’s alot of other legendary singers especially gospel that you are forgetting

Someone like Whitney is still number one because even while going pop she still cause of her gospel influence ranks #1. Her and Karen Clark Sheard are the two greatest, right above Aretha
Cece killing the clark sisters

Im mainly concerned with the vocals on track. Unless they faked her voice on record then I'm cool. But I get it. She just has my favorite female voice but she may not be the best performer

don’t get me wrong Mariah gotta gorgeous voice by itself but as a LIVE singer.. like put her and Lisa Fischer or Toni Braxton on stage and she’s getting drowned out

I would personally say it’s Whitney, but as far as names that haven’t been mentioned, where are we putting Minnie Riperton or Teena Marie? Did anyone say Patti LaBelle? I feel she’s been mentioned, but I missed it.

Think shes in the discussion for greatest female vocalist of all time though I think both Aretha and Mariah are just as good vocally and better artists to boot. Especially Aretha as she produced and arranged as well.

Low key you can make arguments for Pattie LaBelle, Minnie Ripperton, Stephanie Mills or Roberta Flack

she's not my all time favorite but I can't think of any mainstream woman that has as much singing range as her

always though she got Mariah on this
