i like this..campbell was so hot and cold...the rematch peden stopped him too..that man jinxed himself against peden with his stupidity lol

:myman:so without derailing the thread...was it luck or destiny/fate? because Peden went on to win the IBF then get a nice retirement payday against MAB and he only fought once more after that. while Nate toiled in obscurity and was heavily slept on and seen as an aging opponent for Diaz before taking his unified crown and then earning a few more paydays for himself. had Nate not dropped his hands....both of these guys couldve fought out the rest of their careers in relative obscurity.

Yes, just very rare and mostly at low levels.
Just by the rule of big numbers it must have happened at least once that someone knocked his opponent out during a wild slugfest where he threw a perfect shot accidentally, not even looking up

low levels is right. but even a blind shot I wouldnt call luck. Danny Garcia has knocked out plenty of people with that left hook and most of the time he wasnt even looking.

whenever people say lucky punch, I think back to when I was a kid, and Donald Curry was my absolute favorite fighter in the world. he was seen as the best P4P after he stopped McCrory. then came Honeyghan. well I still believed in Curry and thought he would beat McCallum. early in the fight Donald was giving him problems. then out of no where McCallum unleashed that left hook. :wow: everyone was clowning me because I was a huge Curry fan. I said that shyt was luck. and it did look lucky at the time...but my brother (RIP) said...if you notice...McCallum even though he was getting beat to the punch, he never took a step back. Later McCallum said he baited Curry because he kept jabbing and hooking to the body and if you watch, Curry was very mindful of this. he was so focused on not letting the "Bodysnatcher" touch him down there that he left his chin up in the air and pulled straight out. McCallum dipped low as if he was throwing to the body and came up to the head and it was lights out...pardon the pun.

in more recent memory....Maidana knocked Broner down with a similar punch. Broner thought he was going to the body but it was a headshot.

on high level there is no such thing as a lucky punch. Lennox Lewis was way better than McCall and Rahman....but they didnt land lucky punches. they were trying to knock him out. his chin was just in the wrong place.

I never liked that logic of a punch being lucky just because the fighter wasn't looking. He doesn't need to look to know where his target is.

It's like a basketball player shooting with his back to the basket. He may not be looking directly at the basket, but he has a feel for where exactly it is. So if he turns around and shoots, it's not lucky.

When you're at a higher level, you just have a much better feel for things than the normal person.

This is where actually having experience boxing comes in handy because you just understand things better. The average person that hasn't boxed understands power, and speed, but they don't understand timing. So because they don't understand or have it feel for it, they call alot of those shots "lucky"

Exactly

Its like hitting the heavy bag blindfolded. From the type of punches you throw and land, you'll know the trajectory of the bag an establish a feel for its presence. It don't matter if you see the target, if you know its going be there.

Lucky punch is kinda used like the term magic was back in early civilization. It took the emergence of science to explain why certain shyt happened. As people evolved and gotten smarter, nikkas stopped calling shyt magic and knew it was science.

I guess the sweet science, aka boxing still has a long way to go before the term lucky punch goes away like magic did.

this!

I dont know why people think JMM-Pac or Martinez-Williams were lucky punches...lol. thats a clash of styles, especially being that Marquez best attribute is counter-punching. Even Vernon Forrest (RIP) against Mayorga....Forrest was a great boxer but he loved to fight when someone tried to bully him and I said that would be the wrong tactic against Mayorga. why give such a crude boxer an opportunity? I was going to drop money on that fight but I was such a Forrest fan I didnt want to see him lose but my gut told me he would. I hate he got KOed but was pissed I didnt bet!

not a lucky punch but man that Charlo bodyshot on Banana was one of the weirdest shots I see KO somebody on a high-level/championship fight. that had to have surprised even Charlo.

Agree, unusual result in a pro fight.

It hit his arm/elbow first huh.

I seen people go down in just body sparring at the gym while they had their guard protecting, but the force of the punch made their elbow hit themselves.

Could have been the first impact.

:ohhh: oh thats what happened? need to rewatch.

well in that case....still not luck but you can say unusual. you can add Casamayor Corrales to that when Casa hit him in my mouth and it split is mouthguard in half. the shyt exploded :mjlol: and they didnt have a replacement. not luck, good strong punch but kinda lucky due to circumstance where the corner didnt have another mouthguard. also I think the mouthpiece penetrated Corrales' cheek? :picard: I would say that TKO was more by luck because they had to stop it or Chico couldve choked on his on blood.

i sort of think that, maybe its that all punches are lucky, and all boxing is, is luck. but you get more lucky, or less lucky, by how much you know.

The more one knows and the more once practices those percentage chances of luck increase like a stat in an RPG

I think a a lucky punch happens when a bunch of punches are jus flailing all over the place. Outside of that you get lucky openings. But then again if you think luck is opportunity meeting preparation, you still worked hard for that.
