I think if a boxer doesn't have a great read on his opponent's tells and is basically just throwing shyt, but happens to initiate a punch to the right location right before the opponent opens himself up for it, then that's a lucky punch.
Or if a boxer is attempting to throw a punch and doesn't hit what he's aiming at.
This is an example. Miss with the uppercut and still get the knockout:
For some reason tho I read thread title and thought of Tyson Fury clocking himself.
this nikka bringing up all the classics.
Man I remember that one. Chico mouth was looking horrible after that. Had me pissed shyt only went like 4 rounds.
I think this was the co main for Toney/Holyfield.
low levels is right. but even a blind shot I wouldnt call luck. Danny Garcia has knocked out plenty of people with that left hook and most of the time he wasnt even looking.
whenever people say lucky punch, I think back to when I was a kid, and Donald Curry was my absolute favorite fighter in the world. he was seen as the best P4P after he stopped McCrory. then came Honeyghan. well I still believed in Curry and thought he would beat McCallum. early in the fight Donald was giving him problems. then out of no where McCallum unleashed that left hook. everyone was clowning me because I was a huge Curry fan. I said that shyt was luck. and it did look lucky at the time...but my brother (RIP) said...if you notice...McCallum even though he was getting beat to the punch, he never took a step back. Later McCallum said he baited Curry because he kept jabbing and hooking to the body and if you watch, Curry was very mindful of this. he was so focused on not letting the "Bodysnatcher" touch him down there that he left his chin up in the air and pulled straight out. McCallum dipped low as if he was throwing to the body and came up to the head and it was lights out...pardon the pun.
Donald Curry had one hell of a peak, even though it was short. He had those weight issues at 147, supposedly made worse from lifestyle issues, and he was never the same after the Honeyghan loss. But the version of him from 1983-85, I think, would be a competitive match for just about any WW ever.
The 80s WW division gets overlooked because the big names (SRL, Hearns, Benitez, Duran) has all left the division by 82’. But it was still solid afterwards. Marlon Starling fought really well in the rematch with Curry (I thought Starling arguably deserved the decision the first time around), but Curry was just better. Curry was just so sharp and precise. The left hook that dropped Milton was one of the nicest, shortest left hooks you’ll ever see.
