Theres at least a handful of rappers better then rakim with multi's, Rakims greatest asset was his presence in my opinion. And just because theres some rappers that use multi syllables more then Rakim doesnt mean the're better lyricists, theres other aspects of being lyrical. As far as the Shredders concerned Rakim is at least top 3, right there with Nas and Pac contending for the GOAT title

Evidence of his presence can be heard and felt on this song as he bodied two legends (no pun with Guru RIP)

The complexity of Freeway's rhyme schemes far outway what Rakim was doing - his voice held him back though - no disrespect to the legend Rakim though - im just sayin

Oh yeah and of course Eminem whether you like him or not

Ra got the most complex rhymes schemes ever but his flow makes it easier for the listener to digest...LOL at Freeway even coming close!!

Yeah Em is up there but he doesn't have the trio of lyrics/flow/rhyme scheme like Ra. Ra ain't putting no silly azz sh!t and wasteful rhymes like Em has been doing post Wake Up.

no,..nobody is messin with ra on multi's...

as rs is the only emcees his whole career who was never offkey.

eminem is offkey delivery and tone wise.

which makes his bArs lack convincability,

nobody in the history of rap is as skilled as ra crafting multi's,...with the entire package and never suffering a falloff or needing to ramp up, in other deficent areas.

other emcees lack convincability or needed to work up their intangibles.

kane fell off and used a lot of internal rhyming and canceling mechanisms to not use multi's predominately as well as ra, did.

ra came out as an actualized talent with no possible way of fallling off if he stayed true to his mechanics.

to this day ra has never had a poor technical showing on any rhyme he ever kicked.

any notable emcee in comparison always suffered from a skillset defciency.

when compared to ra as a skilled emcee.

now you have done a ra thread...can you discontinue this awful content deficient style of rehashed thread amd make another type of thread. you are the worst poster in the spot and coli history, combined

Rakim is easily the most important and influential rapper in the evolution of the technical aspect of rhyming. However, it's just as obvious that he has been surpassed in the rhyming department by many rappers who have already been mentioned in this thread.

Follow procedures, the crowd couldn't wait to see this
Nobody been this long awaited since Jesus
Who wouldn't believe this - I heard the word on the street is
I'm still one of the deepest on the mic since Adidas
They said I changed the times from the rhymes that I thought of
So I made some more to put the New World in Order
with Mathematics, put your status above the average
And help you rappers, make paragraphs with graphics
Cause new days is dawnin, new ways of peformin
Brainstormin, I write and watch the night turn to mornin
On and on and, I got the whole world respondin
Rock, I keep it hot and blow the spot without warnin
The Emperor, well known for, inventin a sentence
full of adventure, turnin up the temperature
Rush with adrenaline, how long has it been again
to be in the state of mind that Rakim is in?

This kind of verse is nice but it's also kind of predictable. What Nas improved over Rakim's style on Illmatic is that he used way more internal rhymes, making the rhyme scheme as a whole more intricate and less predictable and boring. Also, Rakim always kept that old school flow which was dope when he came out but it's just kind of outdated now compared to Nas' flow for example. Rakim's songs are still classic though..

kinda agree, I would say that Kane had one of teh best style of the 80's but as soon as the 90's came, he was kinda obsolete. Meanwhile Rakim was ahead of his time, Lyrics of fury blew me away and it was 88

BUT, I would say that Kool G Rap was better, not by much by still. And contrary to Rakim, he was still improving and reached his peak on 4,5,6 (and went downhill after in the 00's.

Rakim on the other hand is great but flow wise him and G Rap are kinda like Az, these only have one flow, they don't surprise us on the way they flow, it's flawless but always the same. And what prevents them to have better albums on the long distance is that they're only got for egotrip raps or battle rap. With their type of flow who can't expect them to do a song like One mic or Dear mama. They lack versatility and emotions. But what separates them from the others it's their unique voice

:heh:

:what:, Rakim can only do battle raps? Lolno. Why do people keep speaking on Rakim when it's obvious they don't listen to his music? :usure:

Track like mystery ect are still egotrip raps in my opinion, nothin different than follow the leader, Rakim always into religion and esoteric shyt on his raps. What's on your mind or Show me love are like water drops on an ocean of egotrip raps. And even on these tracks he still have a lyrical approach (which is not bad) but that lacks versatility, I mean I was never surprised by of Rakim track, I always know what to except with him

No one does internal rhyming like Ra(he brought it to Hip Hop on a Grand scale) not even Nas.

This is boring to U?? His flow was sick on this. From the same album.

Just when things seemed the same, and the whole scene is lame
I come and reign with the unexplained for the brains 'til things change
They strain to sling slang, I'm trained to bring game
History that I arranged been regained by King James
Go to practice, with tactics, when the track hits, theatrics
Women that look like actress the status of Cleopatra's
Stacks of mathematics to feed yo-asiatics
As I find out, what the facts is, for geographic
No time to sip Mo's with hostess, never mind what the total gross is
I rip shows, stay focused, and split cheese, with soldiers
While you hit trees and coast I spit flows that be ferocious
And with these explosives, I split seas for Moses
Shine permanently only my mind's concernin me
Fire burns in me eternally time's eternity
Followers turn on me they'll be in a mental infirmary
Determinely advance technology better than Germany
Since the first days you know of, till the last days is over
I was always the flow-er, I made waves for Noah
From a compound, to the anatomy, to the breakdown of a atom
Some of my rap patterns, still surround Saturn
From the ancient hieroglyphics, to graffiti painted pictures
I study I know the scriptures but nowaday ain't it vicious
Date back I go beyond, check the holy Qu'ran
To speeches at the autobahn, now we get our party on
So being benificent, I bless em with dialogue
They expectin the next testament, by the God
I roam through battlezones with chrome for chaperone
Blast beat with saxophones one of the baddest rappers known
Every country city and borough, sidestreet and ghetto
Isle and alley and meadow, theories thorough enough to echo
When it was one mass of land, with one nash' of man
And the whole mass was ran under one master plan
Since the world's metamorphis, and the plan is kept in orbit
Turntables we spin awkward but needles never skip off it
Rhythms we expressin similar to our ancestors
It'll answer your questions if you understand the message
From the days of the slave choppers, to the new age of prophets
As heavy as hip-hop is I'm always ready to drop it
From the mind which is one of Allah's best designs
And mines'll stand the test of time, when I rhyme

When it comes to the trio of Lyrics/Flow/Rhyme Scheme no one in the history of Hip Hop is seeing Ra. Nas didn't update sh1t from Ra. Niccas still haven't topped the trifecta of Follow The Leader/Lyrics of Fury/Let the Rhythm Hit em including Ra himself.
