I'm on a Marine base right now.....work around 'em all day......these muthaf***as are psychos. You need these kinda cats on your team though, because they do a lot of sh!t you defintely don't want to do.

^^ This.

Every time I walk out of the barracks I see a group of crazy ass Marines doing some shyt. Doesn't matter what time it is...

A little context is important - I'm pretty sure the behavior of Samurais and Knights sometimes struck the every day civilian person as a little odd or even "crazy." These are modern days warriors we are talking about. That being said, most Marines I know I hold in extremely high regard. But then again, I empathize and understand what it takes to become one.

Incredibly a great point. All that "honor" and "nobility" during that time of hand-to-hand combat would've got you killed.

Are we brainwashed? Yes, but not in the way most people think.

It's a brainwashing for the cult that is the Marine Corps. When I was in Recruit Training and throughout most of my time in, it was also a "Corps first" mentality. Even over country it seemed.

And it plays even when we get out. There is an instant connection between Marines, even former Marines. A bond if you will. Marines tend to look out for one another, even if they never served together. This isn't always the case, but most times it is, especially among Marines of the same MOS and wars.

I would be willing to bet if there was some sort of defection of the Marine Corps against the rest of the United States, that most Marines would side with the Corps. Just a hunch.

as an aside, I don't know about Samurais but Knights were very destructive and irresponsible. They basically terrorized civilians

Not sure, but I do know two guys who joined the marines after high school, whenever they get that break thing where they come back home to new york we always chill, honestly they are a little emotionless since they joined and they're mad stiff too. no homo.

Yes they are. The very fact that they claim to be Marine first before Human being.

But as the late great marine Smedley D. Butler said

I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.

My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of the higher-ups. This is typical with everyone in the military.

You quote a Marine, a person who identified as a Marine to his death, as proof of what exactly? It's the exact point I made: Marines are brainwashed into the cult and way of life of the Marine Corps and not into being blind patriots.

In fact, in Boot Camp, you constantly LEARN that the US Government tried to get rid of the Marine Corps several times.

You also learn that the Marine Corps had to tell the US Government multiple times that it was in the government's best interest to invest in amphibious assualt training and vehicles in case of a war with Japan. This was in the late 20s and early 30s, and the US government was stubborn as fukk.

Emotions hinder action. I can't break dance anymore and most of the time, I walk like I'm marching in-formation.....:manny:

It's "conditioning"...they're trained to die for their country.

The deep sense of pride and honor is instilled because it pushes them to their personal limits and provides them personal justification to give their life.
