Weren't there some actions around the Olympics (or was it the World Cup) when sites had to be built over a slaves cemetery or something like that, I think I read a couple articles back then

One site, "A Vila Da Mídia" (the media village), an apartment complex for journalists who covered the olympics, built over a old quilombo slave graveyard. The area is for environmental preservation also...

Despite the protests, the corrupt mayor eventually licensed the land to a construction company, this segment is highly profitable and corrupt here.

Appreciate the photos mano, the general concesus is that they force y'all to identify as brazilian first
all while excluding y'all from politics and media until it's time to attract tourists...

I need to look into why black consciousness never really got as militant as South Africa or The U.S.

Simple, us and South Africa had jim crow and apartheid

In most countries you didn't have legal segregation, it was more de facto

That is not it, until 1985 Brazil lived under the military dictatorship regime, you could be tortured, arrested for life or simply killed for speak against the government. Many people disappeared in this period (1964-1985), there was also a curfew. We still have vestiges of this time with the brazilian police that until today is military, and also the most violent and cruel in the world.

Nowadays, we have several political fronts that seek reparations and to improve the living conditions of blacks as well, but it is a daily fight that is far from over.

Ah yes, so you couldn't really have a counter insurgence in that period. I recall Gilberto Gil had to
dip and live in London for a while.

That just leads me to wonder why they didn't seek help from Cuba and Russia at the time

I'm surprised how these brazilo-cacs are more racists than actual Euros ... :wtf:

Funny is that a lot of these cacs are actually more African than European:mjlol:

About asking for help, because of the fear of the cold war i think that nobody was willing to intervene in another country, on the contrary. The US was already allies and supporters of this regime, there is evidence that CIA agents along with the American ambassador in Brazil had a direct participation in the fall of then-President Jango. Cuba was seen as an enemy of the government and Russia had no close relationship with Brazil at this time, and even if they had, we were under Uncle Sam's wings.

People think that things here are sweet, when until a few decades ago it was common to see scenes like that in the ghettos.

Only God knows how much atrocity has been and is still committed in that country.

I think the fact that the Europeans who moved there were peasants has something to do with this.

I just want live in ignorance and smash bundas while living on Barra Ta tijuca without meeting any police,

This is image is too real breh :mjcry:

I'll say it again, how things work here in Brazil.

We black Brazilians have a close bond with our African roots, over centuries, silently fighting for equality, denouncing the oppression and segregation in which we are imposed every day. But these movements rarely get any media, because that's what the government here is so concerned about hiding. The same Government that considers 53% of the population BLACK!

:mjlol:

I bet foreigners rarely associate such images with Brazil:

From the outside, it seems that nothing is happening here and that we are not doing anything. Brazil is one of the most racist countries in the world, we are discriminated against and we fight against it every day, however, the policy of "let it go" by the government ends up covering up the segregation that exists here.
so basically yall face the same issues as us in america, as those in the caribbean, and black skinned people all over the world....it almost seems like...white supremacy is a global phenomenon :ohhh:

And you really were dumb enough to ask a question about something that has dozens of threads pertaining to it including a stickied topic in the section :heh:

Yep, and with a high rate of poverty and violence comparable to war zones, maybe worse :wow:
