Is the Xbox Series S already a failure?

Its going to look even worse once sony release their Pro console next year

The regular ps5 could very well be 300-350 and the pro could be the one 3rd party devs promote
These mid gen refreshes are trash. The PS5 Pro is just this same problem all over again. It will either not be meaningfully more powerful than the base PS5 or the base PS5 will hold it back. If this generation is that long in the tooth then it's time to move on to the next one.

The point of a console is a standardized experience. PCs exist for people that want to not have that.

Marketing: “most powerful console”

Also Marketing: “the cheapest console”

Pretty much how microsoft marketed their consoles at the beginning of the generation

Another downside to microsoft owning so many 3rd party studios now is when the pro ps5 model comes out microsoft will prioritize the series s for stuff like COD.

Hopefully someone else puts out a shooter that will take advantage of the stronger console hardware

The S was clearly a mistake most saw at announcement. The idea was it was supposed to get adoption in 3rd world markets where tech is too expensive. How did it do in those markets in Latin American countries? Was it worth it?

Its still relatively expensive in a lot of those places and not having physical means they have to rely on whatever their isp data caps are, it’s not an appealing product for most of those countries.

honestly, this is such a baffling decision. For some reason Microsoft thinks selling a more expensive Series S instead of a cheaper digital version of the Series X was the right move? Whoever’s making these decisions need to be fired cause i don’t see anyone buying a series s which is now a sales price of a PS5 digital

I’m guessing theres some internal data somewhere that allows them to lose less money per console with the S and nets them more gamepass subscriptions or something. Otherwise i have no idea why they are pushing the Series S so much over the X

Gotta laugh at people who insisted the only difference between the series S and X was that the former wouldn’t play 4k.:mjlol:

shyt is literally holding games back from being released on xbox

Writing on Twitter, Larian's director of publishing Michael Douse seemed to imply that the issues relating to launching the game on Microsoft's platform may not be resolved until next year.

"We have quite a few engineers working very hard to do what no other RPG of this scale has achieved: seamless drop-in, drop-out co-op on Series S," Douse wrote. "We hope to have an update by the end of the year."

According to Vincke, the issue lies with a Microsoft policy that requires games to have the same gameplay features on both Xbox Series X and Series S.

While Series S games often have a lower resolution, frame rate or level of detail, this is considered acceptable by Microsoft given that it's less powerful than the Series X. What isn't considered acceptable, however, is the removal of modes or other features.

The issue, then, as confirmed by the studio in February, is that the split-screen co-op mode runs perfectly well on Xbox Series X but is struggling to run to an acceptable level on Xbox Series S.

The team is reportedly hesitant to remove split-screen co-op altogether (thereby making the Series X version less feature-rich than the PS5 one), but Microsoft's policy also means it can't just remove it from the Series S version and keep it in the Series X version.

Vincke also conceded that there ultimately may have to be some "compromises" made to release the Xbox version, but chose not to go into further detail.

The PS5 Pro is just unnecessary. It introduces the same problem Microsoft has right now. One more powerful version of console being held back by the weaker one. If it was a stupid idea to release a two tiered system when Microsoft did it why wouldn't it be the same when Sony does it? The owners of the base console will greatly outnumber the Pro and beyond some minor additions to games at best nothing meaningful will be the result of it. It's just a cash grab to sell people who already have PS5s another PS5.

XBox needs to pump out games. Not just indies but some high end stuff. It will never catch up to Sony but they need to at least finish off with a decent portfolio if they want to stay on the console business long term.
