Is the fitness industry particularly hostile to black people?

Here's a quick story:


A major gym chain was opening a gym in the town I live in. I was looking for a second job to get some extra hours, so me having a lot of customer service experience I applied. I applied probably seven or eight times because I know a lot of people are looking for work in the area I live in.

So about three weeks before the gym opens I finally get a call from the guy doing the hiring. So I get in for interview and this guy really gives me a third degree about how I can provide the best customer service and asking for instances where are provided outstanding sale service. I mean the grilling he's giving me slightly embarrassing . Mind you I've been working in sales and customer service jobs for about 20 years which was outlined in my resume by the way. So 2 hours after I get off the the interview I get the email saying that he has chosen another candidate. Okay cool I move on.

Just the other day I went into the gym to take a look at it and to see if I can get a free day pass and I know it is a front he has nothing but tweens working, kids they look like they're just out of high school. Yet he told me he hired all these people with major SALES experience to work the front desk.


Now I'm not going to lie to you I live in a redneck town. 85% of the people out this way are Trump voters. People open up stands by the road selling Donald Trump t-shirts and hats every weekend. However, when I go to a lot of gyms that are not in towns with heavy black populations I get the heavy no vibes. You would think black people will have a Fighting Chance in the fitness industry but it seems like it just says as then the other industry.


Am I wrong about the fitness industry in general?

Philly is extremely racist. The black people in that city aren’t doing too great, from my observation. Every time I’ve visited Philly, I can’t help but remark at how dusty and broke the black people in the city look. Segregation in that city is as bad as it is up here in Boston.

That's pretty much Philly. I will say black people in Philly have a little bit more clout than they do a lot of places in the south. But I can name about five or six middle-class black enclaves in Philly I don't see some places in the Deep South. Nevertheless PA IS still as racist as any Gulf State.

I used to get all types of stairs at this one gym I used to go to it was really uncomfortable. What time I asked this dude for help with the scale he must have been a redneck Nazi or something.


I kind of be scared to join one of them powerlifting gyms.

I can tell who here has business sense and who doesn't
I can either hire an adult with 20+ years experience who already has another job, will probably ask for more than minimum wage, and is experienced enough to not be manipulated

I can hire a teen who will work with no complaints for the bare minimum, who I can fire and replace in a heartbeat if need be

your complaint might mean something if op hadn't said that the guy was very insistent on customer service ability, which a dumbass teenager is most likely not going to have. and it's strange how you're making a lot of 'probablys' and 'maybes' up for a person who 'probably' doesn't want to hire a black person to begin with. wonder why so many on here give these fukks the benefit of the doubt when they have no problem not doing it for black people.

One personal experience = the ENTIRE fitness industry thinks this way

I barely even see black people at gyms in this town. If there's a few places you think you would find blacks it would be pumping iron in the gym. But you don't see too many the town where I live. You do see more at Planet Fitness though but not at the heavy lifting oriented gyms.

Because the "white fitness industry guys" know that even with a boat load of steroids, PED's & HGH, their overall physiques & muscle symmetry are STILL inferior to ours.

I noticed whenever I lift heavy I would get looks. Especially when I was deadlifting heavy.
