I like the genre but haven't seen many starring John Wayne or Eastwood. I like a few that Audie Murphy did back in the '50s but I haven't watched any of those since I was a kid. Just recently watched Jesse James starring Henry Fonda and Bend of the River starring James Stewart. Just started watching Deadwood a few weeks ago, which is really good. I always liked Mel Gibson's Maverick and wish we got a sequel.

And since we're counting Blazing Saddles, I'm gonna go ahead and throw in The Paleface, Son of Paleface (both starring Bob Hope) and Back to the Future III. :birdman:

Good to see some people bring up Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer. More comedic ventures into the genre but classic in their own right.

Anyway, I'll drop a movie that hasn't been mentioned yet.

The Proposition, directed by John Hillcoat (The Road, Lawless) starring Guy Pearce and written by musician Nick Cave (who also wrote the infamous Gladiator 2 screenplay). It's set in the Australian outback during the colonization period, where an outlaw is given the choice to bring in his older brother to save his younger brother from execution. It's the closest any movie has ever gotten to capturing the atmosphere of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, but in terms of films it's best comparable with Apocalypse Now. There's a constant presence of dread and violence, and when the storm hits, it hits hard. A modern classic.

some of my favorite movies ever.. mostly mentioned already:

  • the man with no name/dollars trilogy (good, bad and the ugly is a G.O.A.T. movie candidate)
  • 3:10 to yuma remake..AWESOME
  • Unforgiven
  • True Grit
  • django unchained (:mjpls:)
  • The treasure of the sierra madre(if that counts..not a traditional western)

i've seen Once Upon a Time in the West..it had awesome cinematography and some dope bronson scenes..just thought it was a bit too long

Butch Cassidy was alright..ending was dope but the music was odd

couldn't get into Blazing Saddles but i'll try again

Also seen the first season of Deadwood

i do have High noon, the Man who shot liberty valance, and the Searchers on my dvr to watch.

and we can't forget about

Fievel_goes_west_MCAD10416.jpg

:jawalrus:

and 3 of the dopest scenes/endings ever
