Shaq got rings after kobe and kobe never saw nothing without either Shaq or Pau. Your point is meaningless.
diesel never saw success without a top tier gawd on the perimeter
and after the split with mamba was never the #1 on a squad again

kobe was clearly shouldering those post diesel lakeshow championship squads respect to pau but mamba made those rings happen

the centerpiece is gonna be your most skilled ballhandler distributor and scorer

the game will never revolve around feeding a stationary big again
pecking order is decided by overall skill level now

Because it wasn't even in the game's fabric

You don't think Jordan wouldn't have practiced more 3's and been better at them if he was born in 1990?
the years jordan made an effort to shoot 3's instead of bail out shots (200+ attempts) he shot this

1993 MJ shot 230 3's and shot 35%
1990 MJ shot 276 3's and shot 38%
1996 MJ shot 260 3's and shot 43% (note the line was moved in)
1997 MJ shot 297 3's and shot 37% (note the line was moved in)

The 3pt shot is a rthym shot. The more of them you take the higher your percentages are going to be cause u get in a groove. If yyou attempt 1 or so a game u won't get a groove and you won't shoot a great percentage

You're helping prove my point.

Jordan was shooting 200+ threes as far backback in 1990. Yet he only shot over 38% once, and that was with an easier, shortened line. And we're talking about one of the great perimeter scorers of all time.

Now we have 7', 260lb centers who are shooting as good or better than that. And many of them just starting shooting them.

Can't we admit that's fukking insane?

he shot 38% in 1990 with the line being where it is now.

And yes it's insane but not shocking when these guys are smaller they had guard skills then had growth spurts and most never learned how to play with their backs towards the basket like that. Everyone wanted to dribble and shoot. If you put these guys in the league 30 years ago they wouldn't be shooting 3s like that.

That's been true pretty much forever. :yeshrug:

Other than that brief ultra-thin period in the mid-90s where 6 expansion teams got added and MJ/Magic/Bird all retired early at the same time, no NBA champ has won a championship with a center as their #1 unless they also had an offensive anchor on the perimeter.

Shaq had Kobe
Kareem had Oscar and Magic
Moses had Erving
Wilt had Greer, Cunningham, Baylor, and West
Russell had a whole team of perimeter stars

Hakeem sort of did it in 1994 when circumstances had suddenly seriously diluted the NBA, but even then Houston felt they had to get Drexler to do it again the next year.

But according to you kobe was just a role player and not an offensive anchor :skip:

No argument there, guards are definitely more entertaining :yeshrug:

But if you have an elite/talented center, your chances of winning a title go up exponentially

Can't say the same with an elite/talented guard though

Not true. The last few finals were won with Zaza and Tristan Thompson as the main bigs. Zaza is a decent contributor but nowhere near the reason the warriors won. The heat had not one elite big.

Duncan  and in the past bigs have won more titles.

It doesn't give you a greater ceiling, but it does give you a chance to build a competitive team easier. The key though is that the C has to be a two way player, building a great team around some 7 footer that can play both sides of the ball is much easier than finding the complimentary pieces to build around wings. If Rudy Gobert had an offensive game the Jazz would be a nightmare to deal, but he's strictly a one way player, and even then he has a big impact on winning games.

This. I can only think of 3 offhand.

I guess no one gives a fukk about Whiteside anymore, huh?

@The Dankster got beef with hassan whiteside or something?

I thought he was benched for good. :manny:

No, I legit feel bad. I was thinking things like, "Does AD still count as a center? Horford does, right?" and wondering whether Alex Len or Dedmon were even worth mentioning....and somehow left Whiteside out entirely.

Towns and Embid will be the only ones in top 10 MVP voting though, I expect Towns to be top 3 for sure if MIN has a top 3 record this season. Embid restrictions will limit his chances though, even if his on/off numbers are still as crazy as they are now.

The White Boy will be in the picture too
