Does it matter how people feel? The answer is obvious still we can't let that distract from the present issues we face..

:usure:

Well, yeah in this particular case it matters because the bet was "Do people feel that racism is at it's worst right now?". I appreciate the insight everybody provides, whether I agree or not. Still, the point of the thread is not to debate racism. the point (for me) is to see the response the question "do you think it's worse now than ever before?". That was stated on the first page.

And while there is a popular opinion, 1/4 of the people that voted said it is worse. I don't think that makes the answer obvious. In fact, many of the written responses prove the contrary because many folks are asking for more specific parameters. The only thing that is obvious is a gray area, and my bad if that's what you were referring to.

I haven't really put much input into this thread but I will say that while I was playing devil's advocate in the offline conversation that spawned this thread, I do believe that racism is worse today although it is nowhere near as physically brutal. The emphasized part is obvious. Based on what I know, which admittedly may not be enough to establish credibility with many people here:manny:, I opine that distribution of power in US politics and the symbolism behind the farcical characters that often represent us in the media ultimately constrict African Americans today worse than any other time in history.

Beneath that there is the general conditioning that many folks, white and nonwhite, acquiesce to just off the strength of traditions. There are folks out here that truly do not even understand their own prejudice or the fact that they have taken a submissive role. In the age of unlimited information, ignorance is at an all time high.

i love the prison industrial complex argument :pachaha:

they really out here rounding up random black people for no reason and making them work for free in prison.

i remember in high school, i saw this group of black and hispanic kids beat up and rob another black kid. later that day i was walking to the train station and i saw that same group of black kids being stopped by the cops. the kid that got beat up and robbed snitched and was sitting in the back of the police car pointing them out. while the cops have these kids stopped, they start getting aggressive and resisting arrest and one even tried to run. cops yoke em up, slam one of them, had the whole knee on his back thing going on, and other black and latino kids standing around watching start screaming at the cops :comeon: they get stuffed in the patty wagon and on the rest of the way to the train station all you hear is kids talking about how racist police are and how they like to beat on nikkas for fun.

In what ways is it more effective

because it's a more hands off approach that leads the victims of racism to blame themselves instead of the racism "we are our own worst enemy"

if you continue to physically beat a person or group down, eventually they will revolt, but if you beat them down psychologically, they'll self destruct.

So you are black and debating with your white friend?

50 years ago how many people do u think would start a sentence off stating that?

Fair question. Generally speaking, I would say very few, if any. It's probably safe to say that it was not the norm.

Just because we talk as comrades doesn't mean that the system we both have to navigate isn't racist.

These people have no idea what's happening.

This is a stupid fukking question. There was a time in history where black people were considered 3/5ths of a person and now the President is half black. @Yuffie, the fukk do you think? :what:

I remember they thought us that in school and my friend was like what if it's are ally big black dude?
