Perfect example of the overhyping of the dead

Nah breh.

If your on the outside looking in then it's hard to see. Patrice was superior well before he died.

If you just found out about Patrice from a meme, or an RIP video or something, you just won't get it.

You have to understand, the difference between casual and enthusiast. If you were born in 1998 and you love NBA, and you are an enthusiast, watch all the games, stat track, encyclopedic knowledge of stats and lineage, understand the game, nobody can take that away from you. Even being born in 1998, if your favorite player was Jordan or Magic Johnson, or Wilt Chamberlain, if you've read every book and magazine article, watched hours of footage and documentaries, you still cannot understand how those players were impacting the game as it was happening.

I've bee listening to Patrice more as of lately & dude's philosophy on this whole man/woman thing & how society has b*stardized masculinity is more potent now than it was when he was alive.

He's not Corey Holcomb off the rip funny, but you can appreciate him more when you realize a how layered the jokes is.

What you mean with rants?

In this thread I was talking about comedy. I agree that Patrice game was deeper but I totally disagree that he was more versatile

When Patrice was spitting game you would go "wow that's deep" but you wouldn't necessarily laugh

When Corey spits game you go " wow that's deep and funny lol" cause he can mix game with jokes

Corey is just a way better gut buster this is facts man:yeshrug:

To me.
Corey funny but predictable, I kinda know what to expect.
Patrice will say some shyt that strikes but from a direction you wasn't expecting. His setups and buildups were amazing. So was the punch.

I agree with this but my thing is do you laugh at the jokes?

I writte as a hobby so from a writers point of view I appreciate good set ups and good structure but if Iam listening to a comedian Iam looking for laughs

I used Corey not to create beef but to show an example of someone who mixes good game with jokes, in my opinion Patrice wasn't good at that

1st of all RIP to him this thread isn't to disrespect him as a person it's just to look at his work

I think Patrice breakdown on women and relationship was fire but as far as jokes and being a gut buster I rarely laugh at what he says and I feel most of the time he wasn't even trying to make people laugh

Plus I feel like his shows have no replay value because he was with them oppie and Anthony dudes:mjpls: it's really hard to get past them racist cacs voices no matter how much you wanna hear Patrice

So in conclusion Patrice isn't in my top 20 comics and anybody who says he was funnier than for example Corey Holcomb is only doing it cause he's dead(RIP)

Thoughts?:patrice:

I feel like Patrice is like a Dave Chapelle type of stand up comic in the sense that the jokes aren't just jokes, but they'll leave you with something to think about.

Corey is just a raw comedian to the core. What makes his jokes even funnier is the crowd responses.

I feel like it's a preference thing.

Patrice >>>>> Corey

Much better.... by like a lot... like its not even close.

Corey is round the way funny but Patrice is a different animal altogether. Elephant in the Room and Mr. P are better than any single Corey set. It's not just about comedy, Patrice was an intellectual giant compared to Corey who comes across as slow more often than not on his podcast. If we're talking notoriety (television/podcast and appearing on The Breakfast Club) yeah Corey gets the edge, but if we're talking intelligent comedy and skills, Patrice is one of the best to ever do it.

Watch how Patrice intentionally loses the audience at the beginning just to bring it back

Nipsey is a better example

people were calling him Black Jesus for months after it...

Nip is the textbook example considering 99% of the people who knew of him in death never knew about him in life. He became the dead person version of “Free Boosie” and people simply took it overboard with the tattoos and shyt.

It’s one thing to lament over someone who put in work and potential erased but it’s another to simply ride a wave because it’s a popular one.

naw that's Tupac.

Pac was a just a regular rapper who sold millions, when he died he was Jesus.

Atleast Nipsey was respected by the hood and street nikkas while he was alive. :yeshrug:

I kind of agree, his William Shapter(spellcheck) Roast performance was anything but a roast. It was funny, but not because he was shytting on people.

he kind of reminds me of George Carlin, they said alot of real shyt you can relate to, but not laugh out loud funny.

edit: actually, I take that back, I remember one of his stand up special had me :russ: so he's funnier than Carlin
