Brehs will not let this go and it's the weirdest shyt ever. If any other rapper released this no one would bring it up today. It's that forgettable and weak. But because it's Nas you got fanboys always trying to score points in a game that ended over a decade ago.
Same with Hov fans trying to pretend BP3 was good. Just stop it.
Everything isn't one of two extremes. This isn't trash it's just an ok album. People had their expectations higher and so they called it trash. It's not underrated or trash it's just an average album.Brehs will not let this go and it's the weirdest shyt ever. If any other rapper released this no one would bring it up today. This right here.
In real time, a lot of us back then knew this wasn't what we wanted from Nas. He had a Dirty Harry mixtape out at the same time that was wild better than Nastradamus. So nah, it wasn't underrated. Hardcore Nas fans back then all thought it was wack. We can't rewrite history on this one. Bro was in decline during this period.
Decline or just bad decisions? Sure there are TERRIBLE songs on the album but that year is heavily shadowed by the I Am stuff. If you put out the original I Am with a handful of the new tracks (Nas Is Like for instance) in 1999 it's one of the best albums of the year and we wouldn't say Nas declined as an artist. Seems like it was moreso of a god awful business decision, plus some god awful trend hopping (New World with the 80s pop sample, double time flow on Big Girl, etc).
