I wouldn't argue with someone that said it was overrated because it has SO MUCH praise and hype, but I do understand it and I think it's warranted for the most part. It's a really creative movie and the use of practical effects, cinematography, everything about it is great. People's biggest qualms with it don't hold up if you follow the series. For example a lot of people wish Max had more dialogue, but he's never spoken much as a character.

The story could have been a little better IMO, but honestly the Mad Max movies aren't known for their in depth plots. It delivered on what it promised, which was a refreshing and original action flick, and because it really achieved what it set out to do, I think it's worthy of the praise it's getting.

Do I think it should be nominated for Best Picture? Not really, IMO at least. I do hope it helps get some CGI out of the big blockbuster releases to help get more practical effects back into movies, because they're clearly much more awesome than CGI, but I'm not too optimistic.

Movie was great but i had no care for the character. Which is the point of how it was shot, he's a reluctant do gooder nobody. And at the end of the day that's how movies should be. But i left not giving a fukk about the character and even in here someone's saying they showed backstory but i can't remember. I'm into world building and despite it being a gorgeous world built, this only gave a flat tour of the world's surface

I didn't care for this film. In fact I turned it off halfway through. I have literally seen pornos with more character development, and the action scenes are so non-stop, ridiculous, unreal, over the top and overstimulating that they actually become boring rather quickly. The plot, while simplistic, is at the same time confusing and hard to follow. In addition, I get really annoyed with the stupid "badass tough girl" cliche they keep putting in movies these days.
They always gotta make the guys in the flick some kinda bytch too in some capacity most of the time.:heh: That's actually something i appreciated about this flick, that it didn't do that.

Started watching this movie again today.....:mjlol:. Half my nikkas were :snooze: an hour in.

I've got no clue how this movie is this hyped. This dude max shouldn't have lasted past the sand storm :russ:. Why the hell am I supposed to care about these characters at all? Please someone tell me why. This may be my biggest problem with the whole flick. The movie gives me no reason to give one fukk about any of the characters at all. If they died in a huge fiery crash at the end I would've been like :russell:

The reason why all the actors can communicate nonverbal is because the plot is so thin:mjlol:. There's literally nothing to communicate. Like say I'm riding shotgun in a car and I need my homie to take a left. All I have to do is point left. That's this movie. The plot is literally that thin. Fanboys will twist this into a positive. It's not. :beli:. The dialogue is mainly grunts and points cause of the simplicity of the plot which is "drive left fast", "drive back fast", "don't die".

The deepest "symbolism" in this movie is literally spelled out on a wall:russ:. Y'all nikkas man.
The action is great but that shyt got mad tiring an hour and a half in. This will be one of the movies younger generations will look back on like :beli: "I thought this shyt was a classic".

Movies like this make me really see how different ppl are. I honestly can not see how one watches this movie and comes away like "wow this is the best action film of the decade and the best movie of the year". I just don't understand :mindblown:

Now you're just trying to pour gasoline on the fire.:stopitslime:

It's just lazy. Go into detail as to why you didn't like the movie.

I agree with the thread. I didn't just think it was over rated, I thought it wasn't a good movie.

I have the same criticisms as most all of you in thread. Visually stunning with little else to hold it up.

But even taking it for what it was, I had issues with it as a pure end to end action flick. I had zero investment in the film, zero sense of the conflict driving the characters, and then even the characters who had the most obvious/compelling stakes (the female pregnant/breeder characters) they were basically inexplicably discarded, as though the film felt they were not vital. So even as an end to end action flick, there was zero sense of pay off when the story resolved. It almost felt like the movie started in the middle and cut off before the end, like essential points were missing.

Then to top it all off, this is just a personal taste thing, but I thought the score was horribly mismatched to film. Visually the film is all post apocalyptic, shades of brown, twisted and demented, 80s shock punk rock style, and then the score is this lush emotional symphonic orchestral thing. It was literally a total fail in my opinion. The movie felt like it should of had some kind of nine inch nails, Trent reznor style, half electro half rock feel.

I honestly thought this was a bad movie, straight up. :yeshrug:

Mad max was an amazing achievement in filmmaking. Much similar to avatar. Movies like this are milestones in cinema and the hype surrounding them was warranted at the time.

I have a hard time understanding why people like to judge hype in hindsight. You can take almost anything and wait 5 or 10 years and say it was overhyped.

Movies some times reach their peak hype months before the come out and then die down at release.

Basically Mad Max deserved all the hype and praise it got at the time. Obviously months after a movie has come out it easy to see the movie without the hype surrounding it and in that case you can make the most amazing things seem mundane.

My favorite movie of 2015.

Visually, I don't know if I've ever seen anything like it. Story-wise, the nuance is in the characters, not in the journey. So if you're hating because they built an action flick around a big rig making a u-turn... I mean, that's your right. But you're missing the point.

The fact they decided to make that u-turn, knowing they would all likely die, speaks more to the resolve of the characters, the destitute lives they've been condemned to, and the cost of hope in that world.

The War Boy's journey to Valhalla? How he earned a true warriors death, instead of a "death befitting a warrior"? So subtle and dope.

Whole movie was just raw power.

you could literally watch the whole movie on mute and nothing would change the experience
movie was just random violence and explosions and weird lookin people
Some would say that's a good thing and be a compliment to the film if the visuals alone can hold your attention.

But when I said "achievement in filmmaking" I meant the whole process in how a film is made and the end result. Not just what you see in screen but what they did and accomplished to make it all happen and look the way it did.
