Just read the title for from the main page and shyt....they finally put the strap on a black man? :ohhh: haven't been following wwe since 2012. They put that shyt on Kofi? Hasn't he been putting up with these :mjpls: since 07? I'll say he more than deserves it strictly off that.
who he beat? and no I'm still not watching Raw to find out

He's not champ. But after a great showing in the main event gauntlet match before Elimination Chamber, the people really got behind bro and wanna see him as champ. As of right now, he doesn't officially have the match for Mania but all signs point to overbooking leading to Kofi getting a shot at the strap against Daniel Bryan at Mania.

I was about to post the same thing. The industry is different now, and winning the title doesn't have the same meaning as it did back in the day. It really changed during the Attitude era when the title was flipping every PPV.

Right, and I think people sometimes apply this mindstate to an era where those changes werent being done like that. So that's why we see so much "________ should've got to hold the title". They look at it like anyone who was over shoulda had it, cause theyre used to 12 PPVs a year where someone can win it on Sunday and lose it on Monday, and win it back the next PPV and lose it on the PPV after that. Even the IC and tag titles didn't change THAT often, but you knew whenever it did, whoever got it was being pushed like crazy and put in important storylines long-term. That shyt definitely stopped during the Attitude Era.

That's a flawed comparison off top. There are more than a handful of guys from previous eras who would be the unequivocal top draw of this era just like there are guys who held the championship in this era who would be lucky to get the first match on WWF superstars as a jobber.

The better question is does he deserve the belt or could he have been champ over the not-so-short list of questionable champs they've had over the past decade or so when he was competing (e.g. when he actually could have been champ) at this stage in his career and the answer is absolutely.

Comapred to the 80's/90's, no, but the industry is way different now.

People have been wanting someone from The New Day to get a singles title shot for a minute, even if it wasn't the World title. Kofi being in this position now(keep in mind he's one title away from being a Grand Slam champion) is perfect. It's a stars aligning kind of moment.

Low-key New Day has been stale the past couple of years; only so many times you can trade tag titles with other teams before it gets repetitive. Glad they are freshening things up with going after singles titles.

It’s apples to oranges to compare this particular storyline to anything from 20 or 30 years ago. The business has changed, metrics of it have changed, the entire landscape is wholly different. I’m a mark for Jake and Razor and guys like them and I wish they could’ve gotten a run with the title, but times were different then.

As it stands now, Kofi deserves a run. He’s stayed over for over a decade, he’s been a consistent performer, he sells merch. They’ve pushed guys who’ve done much less and given them world title runs. This storyline pretty much HAS to end with him winning

Can't compare the different eras cuz things change every few years. Does he deserve to be champion? Yes. Do some of those other guys deserve to have been champion? Yes. Far as a black man being champion, there have been many that have deserved it thru out the years. Hopefully there'll be more other than Kofi in the future.

Can anyone name a feud he's been in?

His major highlights revolve around the royal rumble spots

but then again Jack Swagger won the title when he should have won it aorund the time he was doing that patriotic shyt and was actually 'over'

it was a different era. if the title was jumping around back then like it is today i guarantee you most of them Ric Rude types would have at least had a quick run. we live in a world where Edge has double digit reigns but we cant let Kofi get one real quick :snoop:

he's always been relatively over, his current run is with a team that is one of the biggest draws in the company in terms of merch and crossover appeal, he's both talented and physically fit enough to work long main event matches and he's a positive role model which again helps with crossover appeal so yes he's pretty deserving of a world title run.
