Someone made a comment in another Kendrick thread that went "Kendrick makes pro-black music for white people."

:laff:

That comment sounds so absurd on the surface, but that's the only thing that I would say makes the thread title even 10% valid. They kinda helped speed along the switch back to more aggressive content because they kinda made "conscious" rap look like a niche to be exploited rather than an organic movement. Same way you had people going out of their way to be thug, AD getting that mainstream success kinda made it look like a bandwagon thing and kinda fukked up it's whole cool.

In the case of Kendrick, he's def doing pro-black music while being backed by the same "machine" that tried to get Chief Keef off. Doesn't reflect on him as an artist indvidually, but it points to the idea that just like in the 90's, the record companies have no problem getting behind pro-black-ness or positivity as long as it's in seasons. nikkas was even trying to push Rick Ross into that lane on here :mjlol:

Yall think these record execs don't browse this forum :sas2:

Can't wait to see Taylor Swift videos where she raps along to her favorite songs from his new album. That shyt should be a hoot. :sas1:

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
You have to understand that Arrested Development got a lot of hate from the 'hardcore street rappers and you need to ask yourselves why.

And back then it was cool to diss them because the term then was 'preachy', but in hindsight I see the same pattens then as I do now with c00ns and anti Black power Blacks talking shyt to derail those that are positive. They were getting attacks and shyt from rappers who had no business even talking about them, and I understand now why.

A lot of Black people are afraid to make Black Power music while living under the white power structure, or social consciousness music..it's harder for them to sing a Black power track than it is an anti Black track.

I honestly believe these artists are paid off to talk shyt about Black acts trying to kick knowledge..what else could it be?
No...Arrested Development was just corny as fukk...the extreme corny version of the Native Tongues movement...if what u sayin was true..people wouldn't have fukked wit groups like Public Enemy...or rappers like KRS or Ice Cube...u had Tribe...De La...Pharcyde..Souls of Mischief...etc..etc..who all got love...made better music..and didnt get the media darling treatment that Arrested Development got...them nikkas was just corny and rightfully didn't get far after that bullshyt hype they got...

What Went Wrong With… Kendrick Lamar, To Pimp A Butterfly, & The Rise Of Middle Class Hip-Hop?

It’s pretty obvious that these days the majority of Hip-Hop is geared towards the middle class. Case in point; Kendrick Lamar. Search for Lamar’s latest album online and you’ll get results from pompous mags and papers like GQ, The Guardian, Time, NME, and of course everybody’s favourite interlopers; Rolling Stone. Flashback to the early nineties and publications such as these used to frown upon Hip-Hop albums across the board, but thanks to the commercialisation of the genre, it now fits nice and neatly into their mainstream Capitalist agenda.

Since the biggest disposable income belongs to the middle class, the majority of modern entertainment focuses solely on this particular section of society, and this has led to the ruination of many musical genres including Hip-Hop. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that different classes can’t listen to Hip-Hop and Rap; but the entire genre shouldn’t pander to this demographic simply because that’s where the money is. That’s not to say that this kind of commercialised corruption didn’t happen back in the day; remember the likes of PM Dawn and Arrested Development? They weren’t fake, but with their R’N’B infused Hip-Hop, groups like these were obviously created to appeal to the widest demographic possible. In 1991 for example, most white middle class people recognised the song “Set Adrift On Memory Bliss” with its Spandau Ballet sample, and yet the same people looked dumbfounded if you played Pete Rock And CL Smooth, Main Source, or even Gang Starr. So back to the present day, if GQ and The Guardian know who Kendrick Lamar is, but they don’t recognise Rappers like Cyrus Malachi or M9; what does that say about Lamar?

:laff:

as usual, some Coli weirdos played dumb and pretended I didn't know what I was talking about. But as some of my stalkers have already experienced, ether catches up with you eventually :umad:
