They called this artist development in the 90's homeboi.

He's been given a platform...put all the record industry hype and bullshyt to the left. Is he making good with his platform? Is he displaying skill, is he expressing himself honestly? I say he is. If you mad at him being compared to XYZ or for being overrated most of that blame can go to the label. It's not like he's a fraud and not writing his shyt...but I digress.

All that is just Interscope being good at selling records...has nothing to do with you actually thinking he's dope or not. But the majority of all don't even get into that. You weave this complex web of...stuff and that anybody with a brain or familiarity with this shyt would call obvious..it's almost like there's an agenda that comes along with all this that has very little to do with Kendrick or his artistry. (or lack thereof, what do I know.)

:sas2:

are you really gonna sit here and re-hash this same argument that I shut down yesterday when I chased you out of the other thread?

I thoroughly explained the difference between artist development & plant development.

hip-hoppers love to play dumb. that's why we don't own this chit now.

you don't even believe that

"it isn't as big as the looks he gets"

:mindblown: what does that even mean?

doesn't show and prove??? did you watch the stream of his coachella performance???

yall just be saying shyt

in other words, with all of the resources & faux accolades behind Kendrick, he should be a lot bigger & more popular than he is.

especially with the hip-hop crowd. not Coachella.

and he should be headlining his own tours. not just performing at festivals. word to @bigbadbossup2012

Stat Quo, Obie Trice, Cashis, Bobby Creekwater... sheeit, Bishop Lamont even got a similar sounding name but where are they now? :ohhh:

none of these guys were plants so this whole comparison is null & void.

don't try to apply the 50 cent argument to Kendrick.

50 was organic and was the underground king before going mainstream. that's why that argument works for him.

Truth Hurts, Knoc'turnal, HITMAN where are they now? :mjlol:

truth hurts isn't even a rapper.

what are you doing?:snoop:

How J. Cole is an industry plant when he REJECTS the industry????

lol.

hes working a gimmick.

diss pitchfork rappers when you were one yourself brehs, and pretend like you were chosen by the streets,

this is how you know a fukking idiot

Drake literally hustled to get where he is. More than Kendrick.

youre a dikkhead.

As far as the thread if yall want to talk about plants and solely focus on Kendrick Lamar....you obviously have an agenda. Because everything you say about him, could also be applied to Drake. And Chance for that matter.

I mean....Kendrick is a plant in that they hid his Interscope signing while pretending he was indie. I was the first person to point out the Travis O'Guin thing.

But ultimately....who gives a fukk? All three are plants....and I like 1-2 songs by Chance, 0 songs by Drake, and Kendrick is one of my favorite new school rappers.

To quote Bane "theatricality and deception are powerful agents to the uninitiated"....but we are initiated, aren't we? Everyone I know been into rap 25-30 years....they take a song at face value. Nobody is sitting around talking about "I don't like 'Humble' because Kendrick is a plant". That's some message board shyt.

And the type of people that would fall for it, don't care. So I don't really get who these conversations are intended for.

great post.

You're right I've never heard someone use the term plant outside the internet:pachaha:..

Plus the record company job is to push an artist. It's a business I don't see why people can't understand that. Maybe my definition of plant is different, but it's really :yeshrug: to me.

Dre gave his co-sign bacc when everybody was talking bout The New West. Almost like he hand picked him to be the next. I thought this was common knowledge. Still doesn't guarantee success.

A whole lot of cats been up in that Interscope building where are they now?

All the rappers Shady brought in could fill up a whole column on Jeopardy...

true. I never said he didnt earn his position. I credit him for the control verse that took his career to heights.

The fact of the matter is, he still a plant. He did a lot on his own but Interscope cut that CHECKKKK for Kendrick.
