Is Kendrick Lamar the best execution of an industry plant in the history of music?

KanyeToThe aren't the first ones to use it :dame:

The Plant shyt was thrown around since the geocities days. Im talking Yahoo Movies and Imdb at its prime shyt. Its a internet Movie forum term directed towards movie critics allegedly PAID to give a positive review of a movie.

That's not a plant tho. That's just payola.

@SirBiatch

The concept of a plant popped off with Reality Music Competiton TV. Think of it....that was the widespread platform for unknown people to become someone. Reviews and nerds continued to claim the industry would 'plant' an under contract person on there in order to build them up as part of marketing. Google it. I can pull up content as early as 2000.

why are rosenbergs pretending Kendrick's not a plant or that it doesn't matter? So it matters for Drake but not for Ducktales? :why:

Its rare to hear a young black man like Kendrick keep referencing respectability politics, we got to do better and what about black on black crime. Usually that kind of talk is for old black republican conservative Christians like Sheriff Clarke, Stephen A Smith or Ben Carson so it raises an eyebrow when he has this much success. His songs are being chanted at protests by people who oppose respectability politics and want to fight white supremacy from the top on down. I don't know if he is a plant but I like him more than Drake who is literally an actor from the beginning of his career in public. Chance the rapper isn't really on my radar so it wouldn't be fair for me to comment on if I think he is a plant or not but the charity work sounds like a really good thing.

Also if its true NWA was an industry plant/response to Public Enemy and the positive inspirational pro black rap that was successful and instilling black pride in people at the time then NWA would be the most successful industry plants for rap. Ice Cube is a success in Hollywood and Dr Dre is allegedly worth 9 figures

then signed him

made him do 2 more mixtapes to "naturally" grown buzz (:mjlol: clown ass fans)

then that wack ass good kid maad city album. really had people going

then he wanna start kicking knowledge

ok, pimp your butterfly buddy :heh:

fans predictably ate that :trash: up

now DAMN. :dead: :dead: :dead:

DAMN. they got yall

only took 15 years for the kendrick lamar project to really take off

great thread op, keep exposing these rappers and they lame ass stans :salute:

I don't know much about rapper finances but Kendrick was opening up for Wale after he had that No Hands song with Roscoe Dash and Waka. This was 2010 before section.80 so idk how an independent could fund flying out East to do 10-15 min sets with no fans of yours in attendance. :yeshrug:Idk maybe Kendrick had an investor either way he's still dope.

:ohhh: Kendrick was signed to signed to Def Jam when Jay was there. K dot was only 17. this puts a new light on it all

12 Things About Your Favorite Rappers You Probably Don’t Know

Years before Kendrick Lamar was discovered by Dr. Dre, he almost had the backing of another rap titan. As a 17-year-old, circa 2006, Lamar was signed to the Jay Z-run Def Jam. The future star even ran into Jay briefly in a meeting.

"I remember was Jay walking in the room, 'Yo, what’s up?' And walked back to the elevator and we was like 'Damn, that’s Jay,'" Lamar told MTV. "So he doubles back, goes back to his office next door and he’s playing my music. Put me in the studio and that was just one of those situations where I wasn’t ready."

You're just finding this out? :ohhh: :laff: Dude been a plant. He's a guy who stayed in the industry forever until he/his team figured out the right gimmick. which is why he was rapping about killing nikkas when it was popular and is now doing Lemonade style faux deep rap because there's a market for it.

:pachaha:

The way that guy quickly turned into a fake conscious rapper was suspect, to say the least.
