He wasn't an ally of Soul Society. He was Ichigos ally who was not a soul reaper not part of soul society. He again helped Ichigo with the Espada against his father's wishes and his own simply because Aizen would destroy the real world in the process. I don't recall why he went against Yhwach at the end but the creator just threw shyt at the wall at that point because they made him end it before he wanted to.
