Is it fair to say that Nas is a better writer than Jay-z but Jay-z is a better rapper than Nas?

I 100% agree with OP

Hov conveys his message through his bars in a better/easier way to digest for the listener than Nas. And im not talking nursery rhymes either

Listen to his verse on DDA. shyt was filled w entendres, crazy wordplay, and painted the picture that his audience can easily understand

Conflating easier to digest with better is the problem of the average Hoevenger. Some are even in here arguing its even harder to dumb down.

Its easier to digest Neil Gaiman or JK Rowling than Mark Twain or Shakespeare but no one would dare say they are better.

Even if it's one of your favorite songs, it's objectively bland in comparison to izzo, is it not?

Used to be that Nas stans would actually use what I'm saying (that Jay is more commercial) to their advantage when discussing the topic, now nikkas playing dumb.

Nas R Kelly collabs are better what the hell you talking about lol.

2 out of 2

Jay has Fiesta and a bad couple album.

I disagree, Jay has Fiesta (the biggest song being discussed here) and

You keep posting horrible songs breh.

That song was everywhere when it dropped though and has the same basic premise as "Money is my bytch", lyrical YET, commerical.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
I LOVE Rise and Fall. WAY more than some of the songs being mentioned in here. Rise and Fall is supposed to have a somber and reflective feel. It's not a party joint. It's not a commercial joint. It's not a single. It's a deep album cut. Apples and oranges. And the only reason it got cut was because of Nas switching I Am from what it was supposed to be initially. Also every version of I Am >>>> Vol 3. Also. Fiesta is a bigger song. But it ain't a BETTER song than Street Dreams Remix. No way. Lol. But its hard to compare cause it's a party joint. Street Dreams Remix is a deep reflective somber jount.

Charlotte by way of Chucktown What
My barber gave me a 10 minute breakdown of this this morning…ish made madd sense, even tho I disagreed and said Nas is better at both because that’s what I do, 😳. Yay or nay?
Yes.

I rap too. Quotable lines matter. Who has more that are casually said?

For those that say Nas; "we don't believe you... (you'll finish the rest)...

I’m the opposite the amount of Nas lines I’ve used in real life situations, I’ve had my friends in awe at my intelligence until I tell them it’s a Nas bar lol.

For example ‘ Some say hate is confused admiration’
“I want you dead under 6 feet of soil
At the same time, want you here to witness me
While you in misery
We hate each other but it’s love, what a thug mystery”

:wow:

I wouldn't say harder, but there is skill and challenge in finding the right pocket for a wider audience.

This is one of the reasons I love Lupe Fiasco, for all his tripple inverted rippity raps, he has shown that if he felt like it, he could "dumb down" just enough to write well composed songs with appeal. Being able to ride that fence isn't something that everybody is able to do.
