Is it fair to say that Nas is a better writer than Jay-z but Jay-z is a better rapper than Nas?

Yes, I get what you mean but we'll have to agree to disagree about Nas being a better writer

Jay can convey the same idea with less words

Nas is a great writer too, but he fills in too many blanks sometimes

You have to let the listener connect the dots sometimes

Uneccesary details can kill the magic sometimes

I don't care if bro had on a Cleveland cubs hat

Would say the opposite is true. Basically everything he said in Story of OJ, Nas conveyed in half a verse, a year earlier, on Nas Album Done

See, this is what I’m talking about. Regardless of who you like better, ‘Jay just rap about money’ is a causal take and you lose all credibility

Not to mention we can list Jay’s personal songs just like we do Nas; Soon you’ll understand, daddy where you been, can’t be life, lucky me, song cry…

You misunderstood. I didn't say Jay just raps about money period. I said he did that for years. A specific period in particular - BP3, WTT and Magna Carta Holy Grail. An era where he seemed to have tunnel vision and didn't go as deep as he could have. He finally got out of that with 4:44. And you mentioned all older songs too. Of course Jay has his personal tracks, he's been in the game since the 90's, but Nas has touched on personal shyt more it seems and I don't think that's really up for debate.

A better example would be a solo song, of course a song with Beyonce would be more appealing to a larger crowd:hhh:

Also Blunt Ashes is a concept song about Hollywood and Motown stars of the past.

This is a better example of what you say, and a better song than the Jay one, which doesn't prove anything other than he could get the biggest Rnb star on the hook.

Nah, I chose those two songs specifically because they came out around the same time frame and era of the artists we're discussing. And Jay has plenty of songs along those lines that don't feature Beyonce, that's well within his wheelhouse, sounds like exactly what he'd do if someone told him make such a song.

As for rise and fall...that's 2001?

Not only is that song boring af, and I don't say that with any bias, it is. But if it's circa 2001 and him going on about his name, his past ect...

Jay's approach is generally gonna be along those lines in comparison, no matter who's singing the hook. Keep in mind they both got multiple songs with R Kelly before he started giving everybody the ick, you compare those you'll get similar results. Jay has and will always have more 'mass appeal'. Whatever margin you might find with them as writers/lyricist in Nas favor isn't wide enough to give him much of an edge to most people.

Yea wtf are these dumb nikkas coming in the thread talking about. Literally ruining the thread. A thread like this can't be made on The Coli

It's called a hyperbole, also do y'all get this emotional in real life when people don't agree?

Outwit me, don't get in your feelings because you stuck family

Explain why I'm wrong

I shoulda recorded him lol, nobody can tell me ish about Rap but he was sayin some ish. He said Nas is like a natural poet who is also really good at rapping, whereas Jay-z is a natural rapper who also could be really good at writing poetry.

THIS SOUNDS
JUST LIKE WHAT STYLES
SAID ABOUT PAC & BIG.
