Just because someone isn't a top 5 or top 10 list doesn't mean they're underrated.
But people keep misunderstanding the point of the thread I'm not talking about just rap but his overall contributions to hip hop.

Super underrated. One of my all time favorites.

Rhymes were simple but he had an ill flow to make up for it.

Always crushed the features as well. Hev was gonna give you a mean 16.

Breh in the late 80s early 90s he had 2 #1 billboard soul albums and 2 top 20 billboard albums...the nikka was a heavy hitter in the hip hop world and had a huge following...not just anybody raps with MJ:usure:
No doubt he was popular but nobody dared mention his name among the Ice Cubes and Public Enemys. And he wasn’t getting that street love like EPMD. I’m not taking anything away from Heavy D at all becuz he was definitely nice but for every good song he had he had one that was equally corny. Part of the reason he got much placement on shyt back then was due to his cute teddy bear image

Above the fray.
Don't get it twisted...Heavy made radio friendly songs..but he dropped heat like this also

..

This song blew up before people even knew who it was..had the streets on SMASH!!!

Reminds me of a few years later.....LL had fallen off and then he dropped "Illbomb" and the song was so crazy, it blew up before people knew who it was

Always felt bad for Kwame.

Poor guy must have been living his life and enjoying his Polka dots before Biggie came and crushed his buildings with that stray:mjcry:

That's a bullshyt narrative Kwame cooked up. Kwame's career was LOOOOOOOOONG over before Big made fun of him.

Kwame was basically done in '91-'92. NObody was checking for his ass after that

Let’s face it tho, if Hev were a popular, current artist today the same heads reminiscing over his music would prolly call him a corny, weak simp.

His rhymes were very basic and unchallenging.

False, Heavy was one of the most lyrically on point MCs of his time.

Plus, he's one of the greatest live performers of all-time in Hip-HOp, back when that mattered.

Dude was one of the most respected figures in Hip-HOp. Guys like Kane, Kool G. Rap, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Treach, etc. . . ALL swore by Heav

It aint like now where you get the fakkits obsessed with money to give props to Drake or some bytch like Cardi B.

No, in 1991, if you were getting props and features from world class MCs, it was because people respected you.

Why cause he was fat? 2 totally different rappers. I don't think Heavy D paved the way for BIG at all.

nikka, GTFOH

Who discovered Biggie?

Puffy

Now, who did Puffy work with first at Uptown Records?

Heavy D.

Puffy refashioned Biggie from a dude wearing Timberland boots talking about raping chicks and robbing em

To a smooth ladies man wearing suits

That was ALL taken from Heavy D.

Puffy marketed Big as a smooth ladies man because he saw that it worked with Heavy D.

That's what 2pac was always making fun of Big about playing that ladies man role, because that's NOT who Big was.
