Loved Heavy D.
He had some great dance jams.

But imma say Black Moon is the most underrated hip hop group/figure.

Above the fray.
Agree with OP.

Under rated, because people forget how large he was.
-1st rapper to do theme song for national tv show(In Living Colour)
-1st rapper to do feature on Michael Jackson song
-1st rapper to do feature on Janet Jackson song
(MJ and Janet were HUGE HUGE stars at the time)
-1st established successful rapper to be named head of a label (Uptown)
perhaps the first rapper to appear on tv sitcom (A Different World)
-made official dancehall records with superstars Supercat and Frankie Paul..that were played in the dancehall
-Whodini created radio friendly R&B hip hop,but Heav perfected it and created the modern template for it
-when you count his acting credits....this dude did a LOT

at his height he crossed over into the mainstream almost on a level of pop rap novelty acts..but he did it as a credible hip hop artist

I have respect for Heavy because the year his big album came out.....other awards shows fronted on him....even in the rap category.....he went to Soul Train awards and represented

South Central Los Angeles So Wut U Wanna Do??
Heavy D was nice but he spent too much time rhyming over New Jack Swing beats. A lot of his music was mad corny
:gucci:Whoa if u were listening to music and were aware of music at that time you would understand how great Heavy D was he was a top draw when he was poppin

Why cause he was fat? 2 totally different rappers. I don't think Heavy D paved the way for BIG at all.
:mjlol:You in Minnesota giving your opinion on 2 old skool eastcoast/NY rappers but you entitled to your opinion. When Heavy used to do shows he would bring Big out on stage to rock the mic with him. Jones Beach Greek picnic, for example, he brought him out on stage to rock 'party and bullshyt'. Heavy D made being a fat rapper sexy/ cool which was an extra component to add to his skill as a rapper

Man, woman, and child
?? New Jack Swing was hot at the time. It fit like a hand to a glove
New Jack Swing was definitely hot but it was better when it was strictly R&B. Those hip hop songs over those New Jack Swing beats were wack as hell and was the main reason the west coast was on top at the time. It took Nas, Big, and the Wu to bring it back

My opinion definitely wasn't in the minority which is why that gangsta shyt was 10x more popular. It took acts like the Wu and Big to bring NY back becuz the west coast took over
Breh in the late 80s early 90s he had 2 #1 billboard soul albums and 2 top 20 billboard albums...the nikka was a heavy hitter in the hip hop world and had a huge following...not just anybody raps with MJ:usure:
