Yes, it’s a good movie. It’s a mix of good ol south mythology and a low key diss of how Southerner whites look at themselves. That mammy was also the first black woman to win an academy award .... in 1939.

It's a great movie but yes, it has some dated social elements in it. Then again, you could also accurately say that's how a lot of these southerners actually look at themselves and their history (see the General Lee statue controversy).

I get the anger but she paved the way for others. And it was amazing she won at the time but Hollywood does love us as slaves .
I'm not sure you could really say she "paved the way", it was like another 50 years before a Black woman won an Oscar for anything other than playing a slave.

I've only seen it once and that was way back in the 90s in elementary school for our history class. It took us like 3-4 days to finish it. You should see it just for the historical context of it but that's about it. I thought about watching it again out of curiosity but that shyt is way too long.
