Personally beyond reflexes, cardio and possibly timing I don't know what benefits it has. Roger rarely throws meaning full shots at him so it doesn't mimic an actual fight.
It's a routine, that you master.
One of the Cuban defectors (Lara, Rigondeaux, Gamboa) I forget which went to be trained by Roger or Floyd Sr and couldn't get the hang of it.
Looked like a proper novice, but we know having watched them they are all technically proficient so it goes to show that it is a very hard skill to pick up.
