We have a bunch of his original manuscripts in the archives at our library. I bet that shyt is worth so much money :to:

In the year since I made this post I started an internship in the archives and my first assignment was digitizing Herbert's rough drafts for the first 3 books. It was insane to see the notes he made in margins. I scanned the original hand written language, religion, and index of the book. It's going on an open source website for other researchers. So dope.

I feel like dune shows us a world of biological superiority.

Meaning... We don't need computers and shouldn't need computers to achieve greatness

I listened to Bob Lazar's story once, and it could be fake or real, I don't know... But he did mention the UFO had no electronics and no computers. He could be lying or telling truth. However, I wonder if computers and electronics are actually a detriment to our progress. What if AI and robots are that final seiv that keeps civilizations from advancing?

There are humans that can mentally outpace computers in regards to calculations. what if we all could do that? Would we need computers? Computers and AI makes us mentally lazy.

If CrispR and GWAS are allowed to progress without political interference, I think we could achieve greatness never before imagined

It was the breeding programs of the great schools that led to Paul and his offspring

I personally believe our greatest chance at progression is a merger between the biology and technology.

Becoming cyborgs is our best chance.

Frank Herbert and HP Lovecraft = THE Sci Fi Gawds
I ain't never read Lovecraft and probably never will. Apparently his insane racism fed his sci fi horror - it's all about White Supremacy terrified of the world.

We Can’t Ignore H.P. Lovecraft’s White Supremacy

Herbert is one of my favorite ever, even if a lot of his themes are regressive as hell and basically framed around his faith in power.

thats actually the opposite of what he was trying to show

The whole purpose of Leto's Golden Path is to ensure no one force will ever control humanity

I may be being too harsh, but I think that fanboy is being too soft as well. While Herbert obviously dwells on the corruptible nature of power, the novels implicitly carry the assumption that certain people are better, stronger, or more equipped than others to hold power and these are the ones who change the direction of civilization. Duke Leto, Paul, Leto II, they're all heroes even with their flaws, and it's almost impossible to read those books without idolizing them. Even Leto's Golden Path was supposed to "teach humanity" not to put their faith in a central power, but notice that it was the most powerful figure in the world who was "teaching them" that and he did it by taking on incredible, unprecedented power. Even Chapterhouse: Dune (as far as I got in the series) ends with Murbella taking on ultimate power in fusing the Bene Gesserit and Honored Matres together.
