Is Dlc worst thing to happen to gamers

Fallout/Skyrim DLC are examples of good downloadable content IMO
Call of duty map packs are questionable
Paying for "unlocks" of content already on disk is bullshyt

no its just faggit ass fighting games(that i dont play) that give dlc a bad name, gta 4, fallout 3, mass effect 2 all did it right, and shooters adding new maps also do it right

I think the reason DLC is killing gamers so much, because collectively, everyone's attention spans are decreasing rapidly. Before you would buy a game, and keep playing until the new one came out. But now, we have to have everything right now. We cant go a full year without having to have something new in front of us, and they capitalize on that and hit us with the DLC.

Remember back in the golden age, a sequel to a game came out maybe 1.5-2 years after the first, but now we cant go six months without new updates.

Games like elder scrolls, diablo, and starcraft were legit DLC (or expansion packs) because it was an actual addition to the games, not just unlocking things already in it. Most dlc is just there to compensate for money lost in the used games market

You cant really count capcom because I'd argue that they used to do it WORSE on the SNES/Genesis.

ALL of those were 50+ AT LAUNCH...its not even THAT bad anymore. Remember they tried that with SFIV and got their asses chewed out by everyone collectively?

I think SEGA was the biggest in the whole unlock DLC on the disc scam tho...thats disgusting. DLC is supposed to be for content that was not ready to be released when the game went GOLD.

*Unlocks characters/alternate costumes by beating game numerous times*

56 character total...no extra price

Fast forward to 2011

*buys Marvel vs Capcom 3 for $60*

36 characters at launch

*sees Jill Valentine and shuma gorath both cost an extra $5*

*sees Capcom announce Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.....with 12 new characters and 9 new stages* for $40

*sees complete alternate costume pack for $20*

That pissed me off I stopped caring about games for a long time.
Even now, Capcom no longer exists as a company to me.

Honestly, yeah. It's up there. It's a catch 22 in a sense, though. I've played some great DLC. RDR Undead Nightmare. Skyrim Dawnguard/Dragonborn DLC. I had no problem giving out cash for that. They were well crafted and actually added hours onto the gameplay. But the vast majority of it is a sham. The material comes on the disc, and you slide them 10$ for a new character and a 30 minute mission the day of the release(Mass Effect 3) I mean, you even have companies charging you for the All Star game. In an NBA game. You pay for what's standard in a season. And the kicker? It's ass. It's getting ridiculous.

for some it expands the game it and give it new content extended life ( ex grand theft auto,red dead redemption,left 4 dead, Rockband,)

than for others its plain abuse, charging for shyt thats already on disc...what capcom,namco and tecmo do is plain criminal

But the only reason they keep doing it is cuz idiots keep buying it so

As others have stated though DRM>>>>>>>>>>>>>>DLC when it comes to raping gamers. One is mandatory to actually play a portion of the game, the other is optional.
