Coming To America, Life, and Friday
The holy trinity of black comedy IMO
Honorable mention:Baby Boy
Not technically a comedy, but it's the most unintentionally funny movie ever

This thread got me thinking that Eddie Murphy is more than likely the Goat of Black Comedies in general.
Coming To America
Harlem Nights
Boomerang
The first Nutty Professor
Life
I mean really, whose fukking with the Gawd Eddie when it comes to black comedy, and most importantly, black EXCELLENCE in comedy, real comedy, no c00ning. He had blacks in Africa portrayed as noble royalty. He had blacks in Boomerang portrayed as professional, progressive, intelligent businessmen. He had blacks in Harlem Nights outwitting and outsmarting Cacs. Eddie is the Gawd
It's crazy how underrated Life is. It has more things going for it than most comedies, even black comedies, that are seemingly more remembered.
It has a great cast, with some all time great black comedians.
It's a legitimately good story.
It's legimately hilarious with quotes for days.
It has a dope theme song.
It holds up in a PC climate, especially with the death of a gay character affecting a bunch of black men in a non stereotypical way.
And it has commentary about the chain gang in America, racism and slavery, and delivers its MESSAGE in an easily digestible way that connects the past prison system with today's prison system.
But I hardly ever hear it mentioned as much as some other black comedies, and it's never mentioned in a topic about mainstream comedies.
That "The royal penis is clean" line from 1 of the skits on Ludacris' "Word of Mouf" album came from this movie?!
I think Boomerang was Eddies last great film. life I like, it's his best movie since boomerang. but boomerang is just a dope movie through and through. beautiful women, funny and unlimited replay value. life is a really good film but it's low key depressing.
Nutty professor I've grown to dislike over the years . still some great scenes but I don't think it's a top 5 Eddie flick.
