What does that have to do with him being independent?
I could go on a long rant about the corporations killing the independent market. And then pretending it still exists by portraying major label artist as indy. Therefore keeping their monoply on popular music.

:yeshrug: But, I won't.

you are right but Snoop & Eminem did that too.

Em did, to a certain extent. not Snoop. Don't know why y'all trying to rewrite history.

Duckworth released tons of material that no one gave a fukk about till Dre showed up. how is that remotely the same as Snoop?

Being an industry plant isn't a bad thing. Some of y'all tighten up and take it the wrong way.

it kinda is.

Just like everyone wants to get on fake gangsters, there are artists with fake stories that are non-gangster.

Either ways, I dont see chance in board rooms making those deals. He is an artist and doesnt show any boss qualities.

Snoop was in 213 and no one gave a fukk about him until Dre gave him the cosign.

* Supposedly "independent" artist is commissioned by ESPN to do the Ali tribute at the ESPY's

*Mixtape guest appearances has the biggest artists in the industry

*Commissioned by the White Sox to design another team logo.

*Is one of the few rappers to perform on "Ellen"

*Shown to be pals with Obama, Beyonce', Gwen Stefani.

But he's not a major label artist. Maybe one could argue apple is a major label or will be one but right now, they're a distribution company in the music world. People think independent is no label, you owning your creations, etc, which is true about chance. He's just an incredibly popular independent rapper that is now too big to ignore.

It's a dope paradigm shift.

the more people talk about 'industry plants' the more it makes me realize most of the people who continue to harp on it, have little to no idea how the entertainment industry works in general

breh, state your case. Don't just post some link without explanation.

How is this one (possibly fake) household demo tape the same as a dude (Duckworth) releasing tons of mixtapes, making music no one gave a fukk about for almost a decade (even while being signed), prior to Dre showing up?

first and foremost the times were different.

In the 80's/90's an artist had to do 1 verse and maybe a couple of features to get a deal. See Nas/BIG...etc.

In the 00's artists typically have to a lot of work on their own before they get a deal. So 1 verse in the 90's = 5 mixtapes in the 00's.

Also, Kendrick was signed much earlier than you think. He was moved to Interscope after Def Jam (he was signed in 05) since they are both Universal Music Group.

When Section 80 dropped in 2011 he was already Aftermath/Interscope, he just didn't have a big enough buzz for it to matter. Hence this video of him talking about Detox in 2010.
