Is Akira one of the greatest movies of all time?

I've watched it at least 30x, and each time that I do, I get taken quicker and quicker out of the story.

I do recommend that if you ever get the chance to see on the big screen, do so. That was an amazing experience

For it's time no anime had ever gotten that real I guess. It is influential and definitely deserves praise because it isn't a bad anime at all, but Ninja Scroll, Ghost in The Shell, Princess Mononoke are all superior and those aren't the only ones there are a few others that I aint even going to get into because I honestly don't have time today. Lol

Akira is one of the best animated films I've seen from that era.

However it suffers from problems that plague most 80s and 90s anime productions. That is in trying to condense 50 gallons of water in a 30 gallon drum. What I mean is very important plot/story points are cut out making the film or OVA confusing and jarring to watch.

Technically it's wonderfully animated but I can't bring myself to watch it again despite owning the film.

Story is all over the place because it had to condense a shyt ton of material. It's still incredibly well done and the animation is ridiculously great.
