Is "A Most Violent Year" the next great gangster flick?

This is NOT a gangster flick. Don't expect anything of the sort.

I was a little disappointed in this film after coming in with high expectations. It hurts to say, but I really didn't care for Chastain's performance. Can't really put a finger on why, exactly, but it always felt a bit off to me. I never bought into their relationship either.

Beautifully shot film, though.
I think the hype on this one deflated me a bit to the actual movie. or maybe it was just the movie itself idk.

you're crazy though for not liking chastain's performance

see I think the shyt was good because it didnt get all the way carried away with that mob/gangster bs
I felt like the premise of this movie throughout
was how far are these a$$holes gonna push this guy before he completely loses it and gets into some true to life gangster shyt? and that fact that he doesnt for the most part and keeps his cool and his integrity was what made a nice lil flik for me.

Did he though? He borrowed money from a loneshark and seemed to indicate he is down to play ball with dirty politicians/prosecutors.

Camera angles and set lighting are nice and everything but if the narrative is weak what's the point? I did not like this movie. Thumbs down.

I'm almost thinking this was just the start of the story. I could see this being part 1 of a trilogy. By the end of movie three he is a full on gangster.

Turned it off after half an hour of waiting for shyt to pop off and all I got was a wack truck heist...

This is no gangster movie...It's some extremely slow paced and boring drama bullshyt...

Oscar Isaac :wow:

Don't get me wrong the dude can act.

But is he a bonafide star? At this point I'm leaning towards no. He lacks charisma.

There is no shame in doing supporting roles or ensemble pieces where I believe he would really shine. And when I say shine I mean takeover the movie.

By the way I saw the "A Most Violent Year" and it was decent.

:whoa:Can't ride with you on that one homie; I love that movie
The Hell did you love about that movie? shyt bored me to tears. Not to mention it never even wrapped up the main storyline between the prosecutor looking into his company. There was no tension or suspense to me. Loved the actors and chastain tho
Maaan I so want to get into this but it'll derail this thread :deadrose:
lettuce discuss brehs. i didn't hate the movie. I just thought it was average, maybe my expectations were too high

I loved the movie breh. Loved the tone, loved the story, what it has to say about the american dream and how in the end, everyone wants to get ahead. You said it never wrapped up Oyelewo investigating them but it did...he made it clear he had political aspirations and that with Morales' new oil terminal will give him political influence and power.
