I think it's a good show. It's not really a sitcom though, more like a half hour dramedy a la The Wonder Years. Growing up watching it, I knew it was good but when I watched reruns, I realized it touched on a lot of issues, that I discovered were so much true and really resonates if/when you go to college. When it became about Whitley and Dwayne as adults is when it lost it to me. It became too unrealistic with their lives.
Nah son watch season one for at least to watch the episode featuring Taimak from The Last Dragon, how Dwayne got hisits your duty to watch if you black honestly though skip the first season it was produced by white people until the second season when debbie allen came aboard.
