I had a flashback to around 00/01 where I was reading some magazine that had a joke about Nas...the punchline went something like "...when Nas makes another good album again :heh:" or something like that. Some of us remember those days when Nas was shytted on hard for being inconsistent and washed up.

You gotta realize at that point he was coming off Nastradamus and It Was Written was still hated on by some people because it wasn't Illmatic (but nothing really is)

That 01/02 run he had is one of the GOAT in hip hop too, really underrated putting out Stillmatic, God's Son and Lost Tapes within about a year... Even though Lost Tapes were "old" tracks

I'm still not a huge SD, HHID, DR and Untitled fan but there was some good songs on there too so ya Nas is really the GOAT in most ways... if Pac's career wasn't cut short, it might be a different story

^^ I've always believed that it's better to look at the catalogue of songs to determine greatness than to look at albums. Especially in this day and age where every album is labeled classic without even discussing the actual songs. Nas is definitely climbing on that list but I think no one is touching 2pac in that respect and I'd prolly put KRS before Nas as well when it comes to that..

Can any solo artist besides maybe Ghost claim to have over 8 lps and only have 1 weak album out of that many?

Nas has 11 albums under his belt and only one that is universally weak...think about that for a sec.

Nas is the most consistent. SD was a disc too long. Had he condensed it to one cd that woulda/shoudda/coudda been a clas$ic lol Ne1 who says Untitled/Distant Relatives is a dud simply should not be allowed to discuss an arti$t's creative and arti$tic output. Untitled was a gr8 album and I saw Nas perform Distnat Relatives in front of 5000 people 2 nights str8. Incredible show. He's a genius. Get over it lol

Nas the God MC has always been consistent with the lyrics. But, many people was so put off and always complaining about his production that they missed out.

The scary thing is that Nas shows no signs of slowing down. All these guys you're comparing him to are dead or fell off.

KRS dropped an album this year that is nearly as good as any of his earlier albums, just like Nas did. In fact, imo it contends for album of the year but with all the Nas hype on this board people will brush it aside..

I mean I think Black Thought should be allowed to be viewed as the most consistent emcee, even if he's always been with The Roots he's basically the main emcee, it's not like he's sharing the spotlight with other rappers.

KRS and Scarface are very consistent but don't get as much attention as Nas.

With a few more albums Kanye and Ross can be competitors as well.

The fact that the joke was even made, or that you have memories of people shytting on Nas for being inconsistent, proves he's not the most consistent. It doesn't seem like you understand the meaning of the word. You, like others have your head clouded by the release of a great album. All this means is that if Nas were to retire now, he might have one of the greatest "bookend" albums in a rap career, it doesn't make all his other shyt a minimum of 3.5/5.

Truth be told, even in those days when he was shytted on, it never made sense...

Out of the 4 solo releases he had at the time, only Nastradamus was univerally panned. I Am got good reviews and had big singles...IWW got good reviews and sold well...and of course Illmatic is Illmatic.

People were getting on Nas for doing stuff like the Firm and Hot Boyz shyt...and also not making "Illmatic 2" :smh:

IMO, GFK, Black Thought have similar volume of work and are more consistent.

That said, one or tops TWO bad albums in a damn near 20 year career is ucking unbelievable.

Half you guys prolly don't have one great year on your job and u judging cats.

Nas started off with the GOAT album...of course ppl will consider him inconsistent.

Which rapper is consistent? Which rapper even gets analyzed like he does?

With all due respect, GTFOH. Nobody believes that.
