"Regal and AMC claim that Disney is "seeking an excessively large take of the box office revenue -- up to 65%." The studio reportedly wants to renegotiate its terms not just for Iron Man 3 but other upcoming films as well. The Times says studios usually get around 50% to 55% of the cut."
If studios only usually get 50%-55% of the take, how on earth do they break even. Sometimes I see films do $100MM against a $80MM budget and they'll be like the movie made a profit. If they're giving up 50% to the theatres, how is that a profit?

Disney and Regal/AMC kissed and made up yesterday. I just happened to get the email about it at the right time at work and copped a ticket for 10pm Thursday show (which is now sold out).
