You think they gonna change her name?

That shyt is too hard for most Americans to say.

How though? After you've heard it once, it's not difficult to pronounce. It's the same with Asuka where if you only ever saw it written, you would assume it's 'ah-soo-ka', etc. The only people mispronouncing it are people who never heard the name spoken aloud.

I doubt they'll change it anyway. I think they'll want to use her to draw in Japan, and her name is a lot more well known there than Kairi and Kana/Asuka were

Rednecks will be rednecks. :yeshrug:

"Io" always seemed to me what people would keep getting wrong, saying "Eye-Oh."

Io is also better in the ring than those two. Asuka is the closest one in terms of ring work, but Io is better all around, with better agility and a wider variety of moves in her arsenal. Io is legit a top tier wrestler whether male or female today. Asuka is great and all, and she's better than Io at using submissions, but overall she doesn't have it like Io does in the ring. Io has a lot more than just flippy moves and creative spots. She must watch a lot of Lucha Libre like a lot of Japanese wrestlers do, but on top of that, she doesn't drop the ball very often or look sloppy. She needs better than the typical NXT woman to really keep up with her, but I don't see it as a problem anyways because I can see her getting over in a Rey Mysterio like way with her matches being her main attraction.

If she learns to speak English better by the time she hits any of the mainstream shows I think she will go far. At the very least she needs to learn to speak better than that grunting shyt Asuka does when she gets mad. Those pre-Wrestlemania promos sucked and probably made Dunn give Asuka the thumbs down LOL.

I get the sense that Io is going to eclipse Kairi in NXT as well, and maybe her push has stalled because they were already expecting Io Shirai to come into the fold in due time. Also that pirate gimmick and Yo Ho Ho dancing doesn't cross over well in America as it does in Japan. "Cutesy" isn't a staple in the WWE that can last long with Vince at the helm. I can see Io surpassing her Joshi counterparts should they even give her a decent chance.

Io actually trained and worked in Mexico breh. That's why she wears the mask gimmick in her entrance I think. She was the only one in Stardom who really knew how to base, and basically taught their younger wrestlers (Starlight Kid, Hazuki, AZM) how to do all that lucha-influenced stuff that they do now.

As for Kairi, I kinda agree with you. In Stardom she was regularly doing 15 minute adlib promos to close the shows and she was great at it, either just saying funny shyt and trolling the other wrestlers or being super serious, showing her frustration, etc. In NXT it seems like her character has become basically an autistic nautical-theme cosplayer :francis: She never did all that in Japan. The pirate thing was basically just entrance attire and that's it.

With that being said, I think Io being there will be good for Kairi. She's never been the Ace type. Playing 2nd fiddle to Io is honestly her best role.

Nah I know that, she was in Mexico fukking with some dude and even got caught for drugs. The bytch is a real one LOL. Io's a lot more put together, in and out of the ring, than a lot of other women wrestling today. A lot of Joshi and Puro guys watch Lucha on the low, because the Japanese style has taken a lot from Mexico and that's all I was saying.

As for Kairi I think she seems lost, and I'm even beginning to think she legit has some minor problems adjusting to the WWE. Don't get me wrong, she's not a headcase, but she is very Japanese and quirky. I don't think she's built for that USA carny life quite yet. She's like an immature girl some times, and you're right, it looks like she does need someone to play second fiddle to. She is definitely not someone you give a major push to because I don't know if she could handle it. She's weird that way.

To even imagine her in the same environment as some of those delinquents is hilarious to me. Like imagine if she saw that video of Paige getting nutted on. I wonder if she'd even understand what she was seeing :pachaha:

Man, I think she's half anime character, half woman in real life. There is no telling what's really going on with her. One minute she's winning a tournament in a company that's half hearted about calling her a pirate (how many times did they have to bring up that she likes boats and drove a yacht once before) and then it all halts. Since this is the same company has buried Bayley for being too kiddie, you'd think she might get a clue. But then the next minute Kairi decides on doing a silly Pirate Dance after her match, like this was a Disney live show for kids where people have on bear costumes and shyt. I can't put a finger on her really, but she seems like a nice person, so I hope she doesn't get all fukked up being around these degenerates LOL
