I already said in the OP that economic independence, or at least some real economic power, is a very real and attainable dream. That should be the goal. We can spark this movement by moving our money or at least some of it to black owned banks. Citizens Trust Bank is an example that I gave. Also, here is a list of other black owned banks to research: 2013′s African American Owned Bank Directory | HBCU Money. We also need to try to spend our money at black owned businesses. But more than that, we need to only do it with businesses who are working to better our community. Hold them accountable, not let bullsh1t slide when it comes to how we spend our money.

Talk sh1t to and about our representatives. We were all legal experts during the trial, let's be that way when it comes to voting. Not saying we gotta be all consumed, just be on notice when somebody claims to represent our interests.

I know about COINTELPRO and the concerted effort to bring down black leaders during that time frame. I also know that ain't nobody force us to move out to the burbs and take our tax money with us. Or to glorify only the bad sh1t about the hood. We were purposely distracted from that before, we don't have to stay distracted.

diverting funds to black owned businesses/institutions is a start. we need to brainstorm real ideas for creating wealth for the everyday black family. the people living paycheck to paycheck. what does that mean? better financial practices. black people as a whole spend more of their total income than any other group of people. basically we need to be more fiscally responsible with spending and savings.

i agree with voting power. many blacks are disenfranchised with voting though. i can't really blame them because republicans have done a great job consolidating minority votes into areas that diminish the power of our votes. we do have to acknowledge that other races support some of the same principles and causes we do. we need to find a way to collaborate where it makes sense to improve our voting power and impact the issues that matter to us.

also we have to acknowledge that we have to invest our own time and energy in our own communities. i mean blacks confronting our family issues (parenthood), educational issues, creating realistic goals. don't believe that bullsh1t about the only way to get out of the hood is to be an entertainer, rapper, athlete, etc. nothing wrong with aspiring to be a cpa, certified nurse, court recorder. these are real occupations that are attainable without needing a lot of financial backing.

i think we're on the same page though. just need more people to think the same, lead by example, and not fall victim to the pitfalls and traps set for us. easier said than done, but the conversation is a start.

Japan, but from the 989
I'm going to go with. The highway system (look at how most highways are constructed and how business literally drove away from black owned businesses) and of course "The Crack Era"....

If your alias requires you to post a video of the person you're parodying in order to be funny (or not be funny in this case), or to familiarize others with who you are parodying, it's time to pick a new alias son :tu:

No it wasnt. It was the feminist movement, social services, the hippy era, the crack era and rap music.

Its so demonic, friends.
The feminist movement wouldn't have happened without our women.. so idk about that.

But all the rest was made possible by integration.

Sick of talking about it brehs...let's do something about it. You want to be part of a movement, let's make it about something real.

This Zimmerman sh1t made me think...when are we gonna stop all this damn talking. We complain about wanting them to treat us right - fukk that. New Black Power movement, ya feel me? Let's stop being selfish and get serious about this.

like what?

Look at the board of directors of Citizens Trust Bank: Citizens Trust Bank. :whew:

Now don't me wrong, we can't place out trust in one place or blindly think that these people will automatically serve our interest because we all look the same. We will have to approach this from an economical prospective. They serve us and our interest, we purchase and spend with them. Same goes with all black businesses.

my grandma has an account with that bank :salute:

the black cat is my crown...
we had to integrate to a certain extent or many of the things we have access to we wouldn't have access to and many of our most successful people would have never been able to be successful... i agree we should not have completely integrated... we should always have our own institutions as well, just like white people have their own institutions....

more importantly, or at least of equal importance is what we do with our resources... is it better to buy organic vegetables and fruits from a white man or to buy potato chips and pop from a black man? ... what we're investing our resources in is as important as who we invest in... plenty of clothing shops pop up in the black community and many of them are successful... but is it better to invest $200 in a fly outfit so one can look good to a bunch of tricks, or take that $200 and invest it in something that will grow in value down the line?

snakes come in all colors and a fool and his money is soon departed... trust me, a black man will take your money just like a white man will... we can't talk about just having our own institutions and self sufficiency if we don't talk about the type of foundation that should support that self sufficiency....

it's not specifically as ethnocentric as this though. There's a war to destroy the political capital of the working class and poor which a large part of the black community falls under by destabilizing unions, government programs, etc. The myth of the necessity of Laissez-faire capitalism is used by the business community to persuade people to submit to their self-justified authority and is leading to a rise in Social Darwinist thinking and justifications for a greater "master-slave" human interaction
