Publicly, his biggest gripes are about the cost of the bill. But privately, Manchin has told his colleagues that he essentially doesn’t trust low-income people to spend government money wisely.

It's like when Wilbur Ross went on TV and was seriously confused as to why out of work federal workers were going to food banks and shelters when all they had to do in his mind was to go to a bank and "get a loan" if they didn't have any income for a few months. Or that time Jason Chaffetz basically said if Americans can't afford healthcare it's because they're spending their money on new iphones.

It always brings me back to this weird assumption baked into older generations (I think it's slipping pretty clearly the younger the generations get) that power and wealth are a symbol of hard work and integrity.

The only think Trump did which I kind of liked, is when he called out people in his party who were against his shyt.
