I’d imagine that most people aren’t aware of the SALT tax except those who benefit from it and also that most of the erosion in Democratic support is from (a) Republicans and “independents” who just didn’t like Trump and (b) Democrats who feel like shyt isn’t being done.

I’m pretty sure the argument for better policies is (a) it’s just morally right and (b) your voters will show up if they feel like they got something. I don’t know many people who think that we can undo the brainwashing done to most of white America. The best you can hope for is to not brainwash the next generation by combating right wing control of the airwaves and try to do things to get your voters to show up.

Anyways one thing that came to me one day regarding the opt-outs is that it may be done to prevent lawsuits and the laws being overturned. I'm just guessing but that's the only practical reason I can see for it to exist...


I'm not sure how you force the issue successfully in red states that don't want to invest in their populations. If they opted in it would help their economy and citizens just like medicaid expansion....

Red state voters will receive expanded medicaid benefits from the ACA from this bill.

Red state voters have the opportunity to hold their state officials accountable to do what's right regarding childcare.
